I visited last weekend passing through and their campus was impressive. It was cool seeing the Bo Jackson Heisman trophy statue. There’s even a Whataburger on Toomer corner.

Not sure why the hate from Bama, the Auburn fans I met were respectful and friendly.

Surprised the Iron Bowl is not more like a big brother / little brother rivalry.

Its a historical heated instate rivalry, I mean it's not like we're gonna be buddies heading into Iron Bowl week lol. I'm sure OU isn't gonna be friendly with Texas fans during the week of the Red River Rivalry.

Yep. The players have respect for each other. It's the fanbases that have disdain for the other.

I must say. A lot better condition than the ones in Baton Rogue.

One of my biggest regrets is not going to see UF play there in 06 (even though we lost)

It's a thing of how some people never get out of their twenties.
As a State fan, yeah I used to really HATE Ole Miss but again, I was in my twenties and my world wasn't as full as it is now. As you move into your thirties and forties, you start meeting more people in different walks of life from schools and recognize that it's not personal, it's just a sports rivalry.
The problem comes from the superfans who NEVER grew out of their twenties and give you a snarl or get up in your face all angry when you meet them and they find out your loyalty. It's nuts! But again, I have friends from Ole Miss, Bama, Arkansas, UT and Auburn. On game day with them, it's on but the rest of the time, it's all friendly. Other folks less inclined need to grow up.

As a Bammer, the hatred you see is largely confined to message boards with a few fanatics in the mix. Some of my neighbors, friends, coworkers and family are Auburn folks. I love ‘‘em to death and we’d do anything for each other. Iron Bowl week the ribbing each other comes out but no deep down hated or animosity.

Buc-ee's killed one of the more visible yet much less legendary trailer parks in Auburn. So there's that.

This is how civil people behave, and most fans on both sides do a great job of being reasonable. That said, we both have our crazies and embarrassments, just like every other fan base.

The thing about the Iron Bowl is that it’s an in-state rivalry. And it’s the only in-state rivalry among the SEC’s “Big Six”. So while the rivalry is fierce, and has a storied, even legendary, history of some of the most electrifying college football games in history; for the most part other than friendly ribbing on both sides, it remains civil and is done in good fun. And while most Florida, LSU, Tennessee, and Georgia fans might only encounter one another occasionally, fans each side of the Iron Bowl see one another daily. They are co-workers, neighbors, friends and family with fans from the other side. We see one another literary daily. It’s common to have fans of each team living under the same roof, even sleeping in the same bed. So, while there are the occasional exceptions of assholes taking thing too far, for the most part it’s a fierce, yet friendly rivalry among friends and family.

It’s the Harvey Updyke type fans that really add hate to the rivalry.

I've been to 8 SEC venues, and Auburn was BY FAR AND AWAY the most fun campus I've been to. Good people, good environment, nice bars, nice campus. Might need to go there again ASAP for a road game.

It will be like a culture shock going there if the opinions of the city of Auburn have been formed by some of the posters here. It’s one of the nicest small towns in AL.

I know some that do like both teams. Met an Auburn grad who pulled for Bama, even as a student. Said Auburn had the better program for what he wanted to major in. He'd go to the Iron Bowl in JH and sit in the student section wearing a Bama jersey.
