Unless I missed it, Duke is still ranked and your boys have still yet to play an AP Top 25 team.

Fair enough haha I can't wait till SEC play. It's exciting to finally have a good basketball team

Ah, frick. I typed in a cogent, reasonable response, submitted it, and stepped out for a few minutes. I must have messed something up -- hit Preview instead of Submit? -- because it's not here. I don't feel like doing it again, so suffice to say, I agreed that Calipari can do teamwork, just not as much as he should, I disagreed that the NIT season proved that, and I wondered at length why the dribble-drive, which is actually less team-work than meets the eye, can't be imposed on a pair of one star vaguely mobile trees, since that's all the dribble-drive really needs on the inside. If Calipari's problem is getting the bigs to buy into it, he's screwing up the part of coaching that involves making sure the team operates well as a unit.
Only I said it more convincingly and with apt allusions to the philosophies of both Averroes and Timothy Dalton. Y'all would have wept at the beauty of it.

So were you trying to infer that Nolan Richardson and Mike Anderson are dirty coaches?

This Ohio State team is not good at all.
This Ohio State team is very talented and young and the youth and lack of chemistry has been a problem. Hopefully this game will help them progress. Mickey Mitchell was also finally cleared by the NCAA yesterday which brings another very talented player into the mix.
I think that AJ Harris needs to get a lot more minutes. He's a one man press breaker and much better at getting the team into the flow of the offense than Lyle. Without Harris Kentucky wins this game IMO.
Finally, Kentucky will be just fine. I enjoy watching them play and am a Calipari fan.

Ohio state is pretty poor this year
That's a bad loss. Kentucky looked dominated too

Yeah, maybe some day we will have a good basketball team again too. I think Kentucky's one and done model may have caught up to them this early in the season. I fully expect them to turn it around though. They are the Bama in SEC basketball.

I think the larger issue is that Poythress up until maybe today has really struggled with getting over the mental roadblock of the knee injury. And the reality is, even before the knee injury he had some consistency issues when it came to aggressive play. He reminds me a lot of Kelenna Azubuike, who looked like a beast but played like a puppy sometimes.

I think at times there's a limit this early with kids this young in getting them to spread the ball around. It's no coincidence they struggle when Ulis can't facilitate. But guys like Murray have to gain some confidence and start playing with it in the first half and not just the second.

Eh, we'll agree to disagree on this note. I think you need more than just "vaguely mobile trees" to run the dribble-drive against good teams.
All that said, they shot really poorly in the 1st half. Briscoe, Murray in the first half, Ulis, Poythress, they all shot really really bad early. You don't shoot in the 20s and win ball games. I don't care who you're playing.

Hey Mizzou4ever.
Could you remind me again how many Final Fours that Missouri has been to?
I mean in basketball.
Thanks!

The real season doesn't start til march neways.

So only good teams make the final four? Feeble troll attempt.

Okay, granted, I exaggerated for effect. You need good utility bigs to run the dribble-drive effectively. That's not a bad thing -- some of the best bigs in basketball history have been excellent at the utility stuff, and there's no reason they can't also be great post-up and inside-outside players just so long as they buy into the dribble-drive philosophy. But without the utility stuff, dribble-drive becomes that much harder.

True. And the same things that make dribble-drive so effective when executed well are what make it a greater disaster than most approaches when you're getting cold from the field. That's why Calipari loves him two kinds of players -- quick sharpshooters and big men who are willing to take a hit on their stats because they know the NBA will still love them.
