Chris Beard? Nate Oats?

Coach K? that would be insane, but not gonna happen.

It’s been known it’s Scott Drew’s job to turn down.

Our AD would never consider Beard and Oats.

Realistically, I would like Tommy Lloyd.

Unrealistically, Jay Wright. At least make him say no.

As said, my guess is we go after Drew since he has a relationship with Barnhart. And I’m ok with that.

The pipe dream would be bringing Jay Wright out of retirement but he’s a Philly guy. He like others that have retired saw the shitshow that was coming with NIL. He doesn’t want back in IMO.

I wouldn’t mind making Billy Donovan turn us down a third time.

I guess I could understand why on Beard, but why wouldn't he consider Oats? Hasn't done enough in March?

Have you guys ever poached a coach from the mid majors? From like a Marquette, UCONN, Memphis, Xavier, etc.

I remember when y’all hired Billy G, and I was rooting for the guy even tho he left us. But dang, he fell quick.

Holy shite, he was Derrick Rose’s coach? That’s the only season I saw a Cal team then. I used to watch Marquette games too bc I was a Dwayne Wade fan, I don’t know if Buzz coached at Marquette around that time, or after. I found it interesting Buzz would leave a Marquette for Virginia Tech. Do P5’s pay more compared to mid majors? I thought Marquette is considered a very good bball mid major.

You realize, Cal is getting paid over $9 million/year to coach at Kentucky.

I get that. I was mainly asking about Marquette vs Virginia Tech. I thought mid major basketball schools payed well. I always wondered if Buzz left for a bigger paycheck. Smart left horn for Marquette, so that tripped me up seeing the opposite happen. We will never be a basketball school at A&M, so I live vicariously through you guys.

The major conferences can use football money to pay basketball coaches more money than a G5 can pay out.

A bidding war between Kentucky and UCONN over Hurley would be interesting.

His firing was just a matter of time at Texas. He left and got out ahead of it

I wish Buzz would recruit the Northeast more. That’s where I think mid majors get their talent from. No space for football fields in the city. Hurley is who I was thinking of too, and he’s from NJ, so I’m sure he recruits that area well.

Usually Kentucky would be a top 5 job. Possibly The Top Job. But with NIL and all that... is it still the top job? I mean you would have to think if folks opened their pocket books it would be the best school in the country to make a run at a national title.

Oates buyout is 10,00,000 and if they fire Calipari without cause it’s 75% of his contract. This year it would be 33,000,000.
