My dad and I are taking a last minute trip to the game tomorrow and know nothing about UK's campus.

Our plan is to get there around 12 and we have the day to spend roaming around, eating, drinking, etc. Any specific places you all recommend? Any parking tips coming from Knox?

Thanks

Good luck. It's breeders cup weekend. I'm not in Lexington but traffic getting to the game might be a nightmare.

Yeah, we're a little worried about that but we'll make it work one way or the other.

went to the gator game in kentucky earlier this season, I was really disappointed in the area around the stadium in regards to bars/restaurants. there was a buffalo wild wings and some sort of university sports bar(i can't recall the name of it). we went to the university sports bar which wasn't bad. but those were the only two things around, and they were both still a pretty long walk to the stadium, at least 20/30 minutes. the tailgates looked really fun, but we didn't know anyone around so resorted to the bar. again, not the best setup. all the bars are off campus and close to Rupp, which makes sense.

I would get there no later than noon. Parking will be a zoo. If you drive around the outskirts of the stadium area though, you will find parking. Enjoy the trip!

Restaurants aren't too close to the stadium, so be prepared to walk.

You guys will be coming into town on 75, I assume, so you should miss most of the Breeder's Cup traffic. If you're coming up the Bluegrass Parkway, it's going to be a big problem.

There are some great places a short drive from Commonwealth, like Winchells, Nick Ryans, Blue Heron, etc. If you get into Lexington for lunch, I recommend heading downtown to get a burger at Sawyers.

As for bars, the downtown bars are great. McCarthy's is an Irish place, Harvey's is good, Stagger Inn plays live country music, and Parlay Social is sort of a preppy place. Rosebuds might be my favorite. Tons of options in Lexington.

You should park downtown and take the shuttle that runs to the stadium, I think it's $10?

That way you can check out the bars and restaurants downtown. Plus the Breeders Cup Festival is going on there's a lot of food trucks, an outdoor makers mark lounge, and a huge TV showing the races.

Forget the restuarants and bars....go to the track and place 100.00 for me on American Pharoah (sp) across the board (WPS). You can get a draft beer for probably 5 bucks at the track. Should be some talent at the track also....forget the game and watch it from the track TV monitors....dont need no stinking sound

Um no. Keeneland is sold out and $5 dollar beer was 10 years ago. Unless one has special voodoo powers you won't get within 3 miles of the track.

You can't even get a $5 draught beer at the beer truck set up down town to watch the races on TV.

Wtf are you talking about?

Plus the races will be over by kickoff.

Everywhere. Just wander. Ducking schedules make off days like 9 to 5.

Wander. The place has the dough. You wont get mugged. It's not like a new Orleans; they have money up there. Big ole thoroughbred thighs...

I must have voodoo powers as I am right by the door (next to the old Calumet horse van) but pimpin aint easy.

Beer @ Keeneland? Do you even Bourbon bro?

FWI, the stuff they are selling as Keeneland's answer to the Mint Julip is orange and ginger ale (things that should not be mixed with bourbon) but the women seem o like it.

The biggest issue will be getting from the track to the game as race should empty about 1 hour before kickoff. I was stuck in traffic for about and hour just getting down Versailles road and it was friday BC (about 75% of what saturday BC traffic will be) as opposed to toady.
