Manziel is great. No doubt about that. But, someone has to put great players in situations they can flourish in. A good coach creates those situations. We all know coaches who don't create those situations; some of those coaches have even won BCS championships.

Is he better than Sumlin? JFF is great but the staff put him to use, A&M was 7-6 last year, with the rep of folding in 2nd half, and the D has by and large been pretty good.

Hmmm... you really think anyone on earth is THAT lucky? Maybe it's a little more than luck? He's already proven via the Cotton Bowl (where our offensive play-calling looked the best it has all year) that Kliff Kingsbury had nothing to do with our success.

I think Kelly's good, he hasn't proven that he's great yet.We'll know more about how good of a coach after Monday night.I'll reserve judgement til then.

Sumlin seems to be the constant...not the QB at the particular time. Great coach.

For example, look no further than A&M itself. In his last stop at A&M, in 2002, Kevin Sumlin was offensive coordinator when A&M upset then #1 OU with a freshman QB name Reggie McNeal - who was faster than Vince Young and had a much better arm - in large part by utilizing the passing game. The next year, Fran the Fraud took over, turned Reggie (who was happier and better suited as a passer who made use of his legs on broken plays) into an option battering ram, and proceeded to destroy the program for a decade. The talent is there at a lot of places - a poor coach can squander it more easily than a good coach can build his career on it.

How do you define best coach? He was a damn good coach for Cincinnati and he's had one great year at Notre Dame. You got to take the Mad Hatter until CBK wins a "ship".

At Notre Dame it looks like the DC is carrying the team. And, Freeze?! C'mon.
Kelly has won everywhere he has been and he is one game away from a possible bcsnc. Freeze turned around the worst team in the conference into a team that could have played with anyone in the country at the end of the season. Freeze was one break or two away from beating A&M and LSU.
That said, I think Sumlin is a great coach. The sky will be the limit for that program for the foreseeable future.

False. Kelly has done a good job, but bowl performances by Purdue, Pitt, USC, and Oklahoma have destroyed the myth of ND's allegedly tough schedule.
