From an unnamed but well-known Alabama paper:
quote:

"They were getting a lot of calls," [Hootie] Jones said. "We felt like the refs were just against us. I'm not saying we got out of poise on our own. We felt like it was starting to be taken from us."

Coming from a gump, this is just golden. LSU fans have been saying for YEARS that it "feels like" the SEC refs were against us. Some enterprising souls have even gone through and documented (with pictures) years worth of actual holding non-calls against Bama, bogus penalties against us at critical times (like a certain personal foul/unsportsmanlike against a certain LSU lineman) and calls that went AGAINST us (I still say that PP7 came down in bounds on that interception!)

Bama fans are always quick to point out that we're just crybabies that don't like the fact that the refs "just let the players play ball", and to suck it up and get better.

And to be fair, I've always had to admit that Bama was usually the better team since '11 - despite the fact that they always seem to get beneficial calls (or non-calls) at the most critical points of the game.

I believe that there aren't any moral victories, and you are what your record says you are. If one or two bogus calls for bama/against us can sway the game in their favor, then we just needed to be better so that we wouldn't BE in a position where one or two holding non-calls could give them the game.

But now? NOW? The gumps are finally on the other side of that argument. And instead of simply sucking it up and admitting that Clemson was the better team, now THEY'RE the whiners complaining that the refs robbed them from winning the game.

Hootie, if one or two bogus calls and non-calls gave Clemson the game, then you weren't the better team. You are what your record says you are, and if your team was actually the better team, then a mis-called penalty and non-call with 6 seconds left wouldn't have cost you the game.

Golden, just golden. I couldn't have wished for a better ending to that game (unless the rabid oompa-loompa got run over and dogpiled on the sideline during a play).

"Jim, I'll see your illegal pick play at the end of the NCG, and I'll raise you three uncalled holding penalties against Bama on their only touchdown at the end of the LSU-Bama game."

Quit whining, suck it up and next time just play better!

We can keep it up as long as Gump players keep whining about the refs stealing the game from them.

Deal with it - we have, for YEARS.

If the Bama players showed some class in losing to a better team instead of whining about the refs, then there wouldn't be anything to talk about.

But we've had to deal with the entitled a-hole Gump fans for YEARS telling LSU fans to "just deal with it" when WE scream about Bama getting calls/non-calls at critical points during a game.

I just find it completely amusing (and satisfying) to point out that the mighty Gumpaloosas and their fans resort to the same "whining" they accused us of when they lose.

I'd have had more respect for them if they'd simply acted like the "better men" they always try to represent themselves as.

Melt? Naw, drinking Bama tears is manna to my soul.

so true. When your biggest win is another team's loss, you have joined the little brother zone.

Every time I hear someone mention karma I think of Bert's wife and her karma comment and how it slapped her (and us) back in the face. So, best wishes dear op.

I knew that it was over when crunch-time hit and the announcers noted that Hootie Jones was on the field.

It's amazing to watch.

It's kind of like watching an airplane crash in slow motion.
