Whereas I was fine with 12 teams I know that ship has sailed. I can't stand Texas A&M but they do have a big stadium, and they're competitive in basketball and baseball. And while they're down the food chain statewide from Texas, Cowboys and others, there's still a bunch of folks especially in Dallas and Houston. Gotcha.

Missouri ? Really ? Yes, historically they've had some good football teams. They beat SOS and the Gators in the '66 Sugar and played in some Orange Bowls in the 1960's. And for any Mizzou lurkers I know from 1968 through 1978 they won three bowl games vs SEC teams.Good job. And they had an amazing run from 1972 to 1978 as the King of Road Upsets. (actually that really was amazing )

But the HS football there is mediocre at best. There's a passion for basketball but only a couple of Elite 8's to show for it.Baseball is so-so. And as for the St Louis and Kansas City markets, unlike Dallas and especially Houston I can't imagine there is an overwhelming presence of SEC alumni. Hard to imagine Burt and Ethel outside of Kansas City are going to be too fired up to watch Vandy and Ole Miss on the 11:21 game each year.

What's the deal?

They bring terrible fans who don't care about their football and a pretty good basketball program. That's about it. Nothing special about either team joining the SEC. I could care less.

we need a 14th school and West Virginia brings nothing to the table as far as a media market and is full of white trash.

If the SEC models the potential SEC network like the big 10 has then those markets will be a big deal in terms of revenue, even if you think they won't.

While I was enthusiastic about adding Texas A&M, this Missou addition does absolutely nothing for me. I assume they wanted to pull the trigger on them based solely on some TV markets, and to just get it all over with.
If I could snap my fingers and pick the 14th team, I would have added Virginia Tech...

A really good journalism school.

A 14th team.

They are not WVU.

1. The money that come with "new " tv markets.
2. Better than average football.
3. Terrific academics.
4. Solid in other sports.
5. Fertile new recruiting grounds.

I've got more if you want em....

Do they really bring a media market just because where they are located.

I mean, I see big 12 people argue for tulane to bring in the new orleans media market....it makes absolutely no sense

They have 5 Elite 8's.

That's more than several schools in D1.

Is this a joke ? If not , then every thing you said would apply to Cincinnati, Louisville and about 10 other teams plus they ARE in the East.

They look at the number of Missou alumni in those media markets, and factor that into new viewers.

How do ppl still not understand this. Mixzou brings millions of viewers from two major markets...thats it. They meet the criteria. If there were foitball criteria FSU would be joining.

We already have the NOLA footprint.
Now we get St. Louis/Kansas City etc.

I've been arguing for a "cultural" fit,but now that it's done, I'm making my peace with it and moving on.

The SEC needs a presence in VA and North Carolina.
NC State (because Duke and UNC will NEVER seperate) and Tech and move Mizzou back to the West and call it a day and stick with that 16 team behemoth....
