Just realized Ole Miss was the 2003 SEC champs. The same year LSU won the national championship

Considering there are only a certain number of programs around the country that have a legit shot at winning national titles I don't find it that interesting or shocking.
Just as a quick reference per conference....
PAC 12
Oregon (the new blood, for now anyways)
UCLA
USCw
Arizona State
Big 12
Texas
Oklahoma
TCU/Baylor are currently new blood but neither has long standing power
B1G
Michigan
Ohio State
Penn State
Nebraska
SEC
Georgia
LSU
Alabama
Auburn
Florida
ACC
Miami
Florida State
Clemson
Others
Notre Dame

For a while, it defintely was used as an indictment against the Big 10 & the Big 12.
Along with a consecutive string of crystal balls, beating the best from other traditional powerhouses helped the SEC cement its powerhouse rep in the Aughts.
Hell, after 9 consecutive losses to the SEC, Ohio St's Jim Tressel had the nickname of Owen Nein.

theGarnetWay,
South Carolina has been playing football since 1892 and after all of those years there are zero national title trophies sitting in the trophy case.
Your program isn't a threat to win a national title.

That's nice. Now do you want to answer the question?

5 national titles for one program and zero for another program. The program with the most wins in the last 50 seasons that includes 5 national titles has a better shot at winning another national title versus a program that has never won a national title and a darken history of no success.
