I think he could take over at a program knocking on the door for a national title and win one.

He's at the top of Currie's short list per a source

I'd be interested in knowing why anyone thinks so. He last coached a football team 10 years ago. he last coached in college in 1991 as a wide receivers coach.

He hasn't recruited high school players in at least 26 years. He hasn't been involved with running a college program in the same amount of time.

He's fun to listen to and won a Super Bowl with a lot of help from a defense he inherited from Tony Dungy. But I don't see why anyone is falling all over themselves to hire the guy as HC when there are other coaches out there that could do well (for example, Mike Bobo could be hell at Ole Miss, Tennessee, or any other SEC school that wants to recruit Georgia)

ETA: FWIW I think he could be an interesting OC hire if he's willing but I just don't see why you'd pay a guy big money to get him out of broadcasting and back into a 24/7 gig given the risk you'd be taking

What did the guy ACTUALLY do? Won with Tony's defense because the offense wasn't all that.
Dude is not great and has been out of football forever as a coach.

Coach Sabah might allow him the privilege of being Alabama's offensive coordinator

With the job he has done at Duke, why don't the Vols try to bring David Cutcliffe back to the SEC.

Hell, I would take him at Auburn over Gus!!!

John Gruden
He just said he loves the Vols. Fire Butch now and sign John up.

JG's like that girl that tells UT "you're really cute and I would love to be with you if it weren't for my boyfriend, who is such an a$$ but just won't leave me alone". And UT fans wait breathlessly in the wings, believing that he's going to drop everything and sweep the program off it's collective feet.

Note to Vols; JG's retired from coaching. Even if he did drop everything and come to K'ville, he's impotent and can't give you what you want, girl.

Gruden has the best deal now. No pressure with big money. He had his chance to coach the Vols and turned it down.

I'd love to see he go somewhere, somewhere other than Tennessee and just watch Rocky Top implode

I'd rather he GOES to Tennessee THEN watch Rocky Top implode. They'll have hype trains that Butch could only dream of riding. If those derail, no September "bowl" trophy or HTB trash can will be safe.
