I understand why he thinks that. When a team is ranked #2, they need to look dominant at all times or they are going to be second guessed.
It's a narrow-minded way of looking at but it's human nature to form an opinion based on first impressions. When I was watching LSU getting handled by Wisconsin in the first half, I was thinking that they were in for a subpar season. Then the second half happened.
Bama showed reason to be concerned in a couple of areas especially at left CB but they also showed enough positives for me to reserve judgment on how good they can actually be.

Why is Alabama rated #2? Reputation, The ESPN/SEC network push this, Saban.... Alabama did not play like the Number 2 team last week, but it is a long season. The final poll is what mattetd.
A 1 loss Bama team that does not win their conference championship has the greatest chance of being in the playoffs for the same reasons.

Seems everybody is just discounting WVU too. I don't think they are the 4-8 team they were last year.
Also, Bama should have been 5-8 in the preseason rankings.

Alabama is certainly overrated at #2 right now. Unfortunately, that's the way these pollsters work - they form a ranking before seeing anyone and are slow to change much unless something happens to shatter their perception of a team, good or bad.
From what I saw, Florida State is even more overrated at #1 than we are at #2. Going by the AP, here are some other excellent candidates if we are basing it solely off week 1:
tOSU at 8 after squeaking past Navy
UCLA at 11 after squeaking past a pathetic Virginia team
South Carolina at 21
Clemson at 23

I'll agree with this but add that pulling away at the end does not equate to squeaking by.
Add LSU to the list. They looked like shite for most of that game.

Maybe not squeaked by, but damn sure outplayed for almost three quarters.
I can't add LSU because they played a very solid opponent. A close win over the second highest ranked losing team of the weekend is not something to be ashamed of.
