The thread on the upcoming Tennessee coaching search got me thinking, and I'd love to hear tRant's opinion:

Is Tennessee a better job than A&M?
Is Auburn a better job than Tennessee?

How likely are established P5 coaches to leave their gigs for another college job? Going from Vandy to Penn State seems to make sense. Going from Wisconsin to Arkansas, looks to be a bad move (obviously, there were some extenuating circumstances there).

TAMU could be the best gig in the country if we were getting wins. Recruiting hotbed, facilities, and deep pockets. If we were getting Saban-like results, we could afford to pay more than Bama without batting an eye.

Nope. Little brother mentality on a soviet style campus in a starkville-esque town.

Everything is bigger in Texas, especially the delusion.

A&M should be a better job than UT, but I'm not sure it is. That said, between Texas and A&M, first one to hire the right coach could dominate the state for a while.

UT has to recruit nationally and that just isn't easy....although Lyle didn't have trouble getting talent to K'ville and neither did Freshwater.

UT I think is a better job than AU. Auburn does very well given the hand they were dealt.

population is only part of the equation here. I'm just happy you're smart enough to not even both trying to argue prongs 1 or 2

I would think aTm has the potential to be the best job of the 3, but they can't seem to get out of their own way.

Case in point. Gene Stallings coaches at his alma mater aTm and gets fired after going 27-45-1. At Alabama he compiles a 70-16-1 record over the same amount of time.

Dennis Franchione comes to Bama after being arse-reamed for sanctions. Has a winning record and could have/should have won the SEC W had we been eligible. We know the demise he experienced at aTm.

I think aTm boosters (the whole state of Texas) has the same issues Bama did prior to Saban. All the money men have too much say so, and think they can run a program better than the coach.

Having said all that, I think UT is in the best position to be the best job. Only competitive football school in the state. It's the best thing going. If you got a good hot coach with the ability to recruit, I think UsluT could be as dominate a force as any in the top tier schools in the country.

A&M has lots of money and the excitement of moving to the SEC still fresh. UT has 20 years of mostly disappointments.

So I'll go with A&M.

Auburn has a couple championship appearances, a national title and probably should have been there once more in the last 15 years. UT has 2 SEC East championships and 6 losing seasons in that span.

So I have to go with Auburn.

If the state legistlature of Mississippi would end either State's or Ole Miss' football programs, the survivor would be in a very good situation.

Maybe a bit under LSU's recruiting situation, but very good.

Hmmm hadn't thought about it in a while, but you could say the same for Cackalackky and Clemson. Since I know that one won't ever happen, I'm sure the Ole Miss/State indecent proposal is equally impossible.

But if all you want to do is win games...

All three programs are top tier jobs, imo. They are pretty equal as far as what they can offer to a potential coach. I think the difference is so minimal that it will all come down to personal preference and roster for any incoming coach.
