Realistically, we don't know that King would've been much better.
Yes we do. Even when throwing 3 interceptions (2 were deflections off the WR's hands) against Kent State, King threw for more yards during the season opener than Calzada has ever thrown for in a single game.
He was also the second-fastest player on the team behind Devon Achane. That factor alone would cause problems for opposing defenses and mask OL problems.
Against Kent State, he completed 63.6% of his passes for 292 yards and 2 TD as well as running for 22 yards on 5 carries.
Zach Calzada had two total games in which he had a better completion percentage: Alabama (67.7%) and Prairie View (71.4%). His career high in rushing was 28 yards on 7 carries against Colorado. That was the only game in which he had more than 15 yards rushing, one of 5 games in which he had greater than ZERO yards rushing, and one of 3 games in which he had double-digit rushing yards.

No offense but this is one of the dumbest arguments I've ever seen here.
You're saying we know King is better because he threw for more yards than Calzada ever did, versus Kent State.
You conveniently left out the fact that Calzada threw for 7 less yards on 2 less attempts versus freaking ALABAMA.
Take your homer glasses off, there's literally no evidence that King was any better than the Calzone.

I am not sure you can call any OT win a beatdown

A&M did not have a significant talent edge in those 4 games and especially at the QB position.
But you were objectively more talented than every team you lost to.
Technically not LSU but they were playing their practice squad.

Next year that won't be the case though.
Ah.
The old Aggie "next year" sentiment.

I don't think king being healthy would have resulted in us winning the SECw division but I think we would have lost probably 2 less games with him. Maybe less than that when you consider we only lost our games by an average of less than 7 points. It's too close to tell.

That is always a dangerous rabbit hole.
Every year, you can pretty much look at 2 more wins, but you could also earn another loss or two.
For us GA State and Alabama are the two I think of.

@Colonel Ingus - Injury excuses at $9M/yr are for losers. Georgia just won an NC with a walk-on QB vs a 1st yr QB with both 5-star WR hurt.

Here are King's highlights from the Kent State game. Haynes King highlights-Kent State
There are multiple plays he makes that Calzada simply was not capable of. His ability to evade pressure was especially key because A&M had such a young OL this year and he was much faster on pulling the trigger and had no fear of throwing the deep ball. This was also in his first game so odds are he was going to continue to improve. No guarantees of course but watching this it's pretty clear why King was the starter.

No one is excusing the losses. We lost. The question was about whether or not A&M had significantly more talent than those 4 teams and that makes who is playing in those games relevant.

People said this about Kenny Hill too.
And he didn't throw 3 interceptions vs cupcakes.

Can’t keep all players happy and no doubt some players will transfer, but players will transfer any way

quote:So after 4 yrs Jimbo hasn't significantly recruited better than Ark, MSU, and OM (incl 3rd string LSU) with all those Jillion dollar facilities and donors? And aggy is the only program that has injuries? Really? Really? Then what is Jimbo good at? Chewing out his QB after every play. Watch him. It's pathetic.

2014 Texas A&M had 4 returning starters on the offensive line from the 2013 season (Germain Ifedi, Cedric Ogbuehi, Mike Matthews, Jarvis Harrison). Two of those were 1st Round picks.
2021 Texas A&M had 1 (Kenyon Green) and started a true freshman at Center in their opener.
The 2022 A&M offensive line will be far more experienced, returning 3 starters.

True, it can happen. That said Kenny Hill is a very unusual case of a guy that had his best game ever in his first game. That's why I said "odds are" because virtually all QB's improve with experience.
That was also the case with Calzada btw, he was horrible against Colorado and Arkie and not much better against State. Then he had his shining moment against Bama but really had no other games where he was above average. Even against Bama he had a costly interception and his stats were just pretty good (21/31 for 285). He went ice cold in the 3rd quarter into the 4th and Bama nearly won. The kid had a lot of heart but he just wasn't that good and had multiple flaws that were very hard to overcome.
