I have grandparents that live in Mountain Brook, close to where that tornado hit. I'm simply stating a fact. Don't be so sensitive.

The areas near Mountain Brook that saw damage, while it was bad, wasn't near the destruction that occurred in Tuscaloosa, or the northwest parts of Birmingham. I was there that day, and it's not even close.

You should try helping people who are shaking because they can't get out of a bathtub 3 days after a tornado killed everyone they love before you start making character judgments or taking it upon yourself to decide what is serious and what isn't.

The fact that you don't even realize what you said or what it does to people who see that is evidence enough that you should have been banned.

Truth. I drive through Cahaba Heights pretty much every day and the damage is still visible (especially in the treelines) but the Tuscaloosa, Cullman, Phil Campbell and Pratt City damage eclipsed it by several orders of magnitude.

It was shocking when it first happened... driving down 280. I'm from the part of Mountain Brook that is near the villages, and we didn't get touched. My brother works one of the tall buildings downtown and saw it pass by from his office.

But then if you go to Pratt City or Cordova, or Cullman, or any of those places you said, it's just horrific. I went into those areas every day after it happened, and each time, it would make me burst into tears and I had to gather myself before going to help.

I don't think people realize that when you see pictures and footage of the tornado, all of the devastation and turmoil that you saw, and all of the devastation that occurred is instantly there in your mind again.

Apparently he likes grab women's asses in bars a lot and thinks they are overreacting if they tattle.

Chances are he sits on the computer and just wishes he did that.

You would think that most people would have the common decency to think of the bad memories a post could bring up especially when you mention a disaster that messed up so many people's lives

Homewood here.

Ok, yeah, Homewood's not a very big deal.

we didn't get touched

Our lights and cable never went out at all that day, during either event. Watching it go through north Birmingham, some 5-7 miles away was surreal.

I never actually got an opportunity to check out any of the affected areas except Fultondale and Cahaba Heights.

It really is. Watching it in Tuscaloosa and then later in Birmingham on live TV was something I'll never forget.

Yes. Homewood is like a shanty town...

Ours might have for 5 minutes, but we have a generator. I was at my parents that day, and we NEVER go to the basement, but we went into the basement for that storm. We'd seen it go through Tuscaloosa, and for a bit, they didn't know the direction it was going to take in Birmingham. I grabbed my wallet, and my mom's, and we got insurance papers, and put the dogs on leashes, and watched James Spann from the computer in the basement. The dogs were going INSANE.

All of those badly hit areas looked like the pictures that you'd see of towns that were bombed in WWII.

Yeah, not gonna lie. This was one which sent me scampering for cover.

I felt decently secure knowing that weather patterns generally travel from southwest to northeast. I figured that with Pleasant Grove, it would smack Gardendale (it did hit Fultondale) and maybe Pinson or Trussvile.

Yeah, I grabbed the dog and cat and we cramped into the little downstairs bathroom of our townhouse.

Well then you have Mayfair and Hollywood Blvd and Edgewood... Those make up.

Straight line winds are usually what get our part of town... and Homewood is basically the same exact part of town. I don't think it's at all coincidence that the established moneyed parts of town are the ones that are never hit. That said, there's always the exception.

Red Tails the movie go see it if you haven't already. It was the reason Bama won on 1/9. Great story.

Hijacking of thread over, carry on.

Edgewood and the Broadway and Hollywood areas are pretty nice. Not all of West Homewood is a dump either, though, in its defense.

Yeah, I was more worried about trees getting knocked down and other collateral damage.

The main reason our part of town is more affluent does involve wind movement. The air currents generally blew smoke from the mills to the north and east. The major old iron operations being as they are in Bessemer, Pleasant Grove and downtown (in the case of Sloss) dictated that the areas to the immediate south of the operations would generally stay cleaner (and smell better).

As far as storms are concerned, we got REALLY lucky that day. We had storms to our immediate north, south, east and southwest. THAT part was unreal to me; I've always felt that we got lucky in our little over-the-mountain communities, but this was ridiculous.

Joe Paterno is near death and has been taken off of a respirator. The family has been called in.

I'll decline to open a can of worms by talking about how bitter I am about all of that.
