Mullen won more SEC games than Franklin did in his 1st year. He even beat a ranked team. His biggest problem was a tough OOC schedule or we easily go 7-5.

Fixed it. My bad. I was so shocked by the absurdity of your argument's premise that I wasn't thinking clearly on the spelling test portion of my post.

None of that changes the fact that Mullen would be by any other fanbases standards a collosal disappointment, but I'm glad that you guys love him. Hell, give him a lifetime contract. The rest of the West (outside of Ole Miss) would love to continue chalking up that W every year.

Mullen walked into a much better situation with much more talent. Franklin walked into a Vandy job where they were coming off a 2-10 season with no depth or talent and won 6 games.

And no way in hell he would have won 6 games with Vandy his first year.

No way in hell?

Give me a break. The East was complete dog shite last year and the only win he got in that division was Kentucky. Lucky for him he was able to play Ole Miss.

Wins against Elon, UConn, Ole Miss, Army, Kentucky, WF.

Impressive.

I thought it was pretty clear Mullen was the worst coach on that list. it should be a compliment for him to be mentioned with those two. One won a national championship and the other is doing well at fricking vandy. All mullen has accomplished is almost winning 10 games.

Again. It was at Vandy. The State job is considerably better and much easier than the Vandy job.

Not to mention that one unlucky play cost them a game against Arky and that they had a solid chance ot win 3 other games. Vandy could have been a 9 win team last year. They only won 6, but with what they had and were expected to do, 6 was pretty impressive. i am a believer in Franklin and what he is doing at Vandy. Very impressive, IMO.

Your point? We were dogshit in 2008 and for the previous decade. Our 2007 team was shite and quite possibly the worst team ever to win 8 games. We had zero talent and started a 5'6" walk-on qb with braces in 2009.

What? Besides 2007 we hadn't won more than three SEC games since 2000. Don't act like Crooms was bringing in much talent. If Mullen and his staff didn't do a damn good job of developing those guys then we wouldn't have nearly the success we did in 2010.

Y'all were bad but had some talented players, such as Relf, Robert Elliot and Anthony Dixon. Vandy had absolutely nothing and was coming off a 2-10 season.

John L and Mullen aren't that far apart. Mullen has benefited from there being 3 strong teams in the west for the last couple of years. Makes him look better by association and cover up a piss poor record against the other teams except ole miss.

And against Tennessee, too.

The thing about Mullen (and don't take offense, WDE24) is that his play calling by the goal-line cost MSU the game against AU. Had he called a run/pass option play to the player's strong side (right) then the QB could have either a) scored, b) completed a pass for a score, or c) thrown the ball away giving MSU another down to try to win.

And FWIW, Mullen is NOT particularly well thought of in coaching circles.

Two of these players are not like the other. Relf was a sophomore that didn't play over Tyson Lee. Robert Elliot never once broke higher than 3rd string on the depth chart. We had one player.

Elliot hasn't done anything since his knee exploded in 2008, Dixon didn't reach his full potential until Mullen challenged him back in early 2009, and Relf, whelp. Crooms recruited him as a pocket passer, I think that's all that needs to be said there. No way does Croom have that 2009 team competitive with the likes of Florida, Georgia Tech, LSU, or that Ole Miss team.

No offense taken, just remember that that was a score (plus and extra point) needed to tie, not win the game.
