LSU is in a hell hole called Baton Rouge where the ugly delta meets the oil refineries. Why the hell any coach would subject his family to live there is beyond me. Maybe Franklin leaves, but his wife reportedly loves the culture of Nashville. Translation; he might leave Vandy someday, but it will never be for LSU.

I see jealousy written all over this thread and the subsequent comments. When that happens, you know your program has arrived. Four bowls in seven years and breaking two SEC baseball records last year will make you a target.

I guess it depends on the coach's aspirations to win or not.

Most coaches would love to coach within a state like Louisiana that is rated number one (per capita) in NFL produced athletes, has only one college that vies for those recruits, and has a large athletic budget. Those are reasons enough for most coaches to want to be at a school like LSU. I assumed most people with a brain firing on all cylinders would realized that also.

I was wrong in my assumption regarding my last sentence.

I can see your jimmies are rustled, and that's fine. Just know that Vandy will always be a stepping stone job, and y'all will go back to being Vandy as soon as JF leaves.

Regarding Vandy's "arrival" that you speak of

Normal for Tennessee would be beating Vandy 90% of the time.

I don't feel like doing the math but it's probably closer to 95% or more. Not kidding or dissing.

What's weird is none of the people claiming that Vandy's record would've been different against healthier teams are associated with the teams that were injured/beaten by Vandy this year. I don't know if it can be called whining in that situation. More an assertion of opinion that has some supportable basis in reality.

At any rate, why let it bother you? You still have those W's and barring getting NCAA'd for some reason that won't change.

As to Franklin... he's polarizing, prickly when the press asks him questions he doesn't like, prone to dumb comments when speaking off the cuff, a great motivator of his players, capable of being classy when he wants to be, and has done a great job at Vandy. IOW, he's a pretty typical young football coach and falls slightly more to the emotional side personality wise (not always the classiest as he's an emotional guy but far from being the worst personality out there and not as bad as his worst moments). He'll be fine wherever he goes or if he stays. However, I think he ends up at PSU.

Vandy will also be fine whether he stays or leaves. The team will regress next year due to losing key players but I think overall Vandy can maintain a lot of the gains they've made.

I wouldn't mind him staying either. I don't think he will though.

This is a fair assessment. I also think that if JF was some boring stiff with impeccable manners that he would be nowhere nearly as effective as a coach. Everything he does - all his eccentricities- lights a fire under his team's arse, and I'll take that.

I do not pretend to be an authority of LSU athletics. But it amazes me how many of you so-called football students who pride yourselves on knowing everything about the opposition, know so little about Vanderbilt. For example, Vanderbilt has almost a 4 billion dollar endowment. While that does not directly impact our football, it does reflect a very wealthy University quite capable of taking care of its needs, including paying our football coach his annual 3 million dollar salary and including paying for our new 30 million dollar practice facility. And contrary to the ignorance often voiced about our fan support, we had an conservatively estimated 32k fans in Birmingham on Saturday. Just ask Houston (a University 7 times larger than we are) who had the home field advantage. I will give you that Louisiana is a more fertile State for football recruiting, but Tennessee's population, at 6.5 million, is beginning to churn our more recruits. And besides, Vandy can recruit quite nicely out of State.

What would Vanderbilt's record have been this year if Florida, Tennessee and Georgia were anywhere near normal?

Not flaming but this year WAS Tennessee's new normal. It's been a long time sense they've been dominant. It's been a few years since they've even been better than Vandy.
