That's because ucla lost the game, not that aggy won it.

UCLA got dominated for 55 minutes and had a lucky heave into double coverage pay off. They promptly went back to getting dominated in OT.

The games were nearly identical in terms of the better team blowing a two score lead late, except UCLA hadnt almost lost to an FCS team the week before.

know you're trying to troll but I think most are happy about the fact Gus' play calling and the offensive execution more so than the win and who it was over. Over 700 yards of offense is great to see against air after witnessing that offense in the season opener.

The thing is Gus has always stuffed the stat line against inferior competition. He actually has the Auburn fanbase thinking Chris Todd was a good QB. The guy dominated against 5 nonconference cream puffs and was below average against SEC competition yet ask any Auburn fan and they point to Chris Todd as proof that Gus can be good with any QB. Racking up 700 yards offense is fine, but it was just Gus getting the Auburn faithful off his back against a woeful Arkansas State team that has now given up nearly 1,300 yards in their first two games.

Bama dominates and only gives up a TD because Lane got cute with a minute to go in the game, yet Bama has questions per AL.com and Auburn is setting records and back to the Gus offense we all love. It's strange how everyone ridicules these games against cupcakes (even though Western Kentucky finished in the top 25 last year) yet overreacts when their team looks good against them.

Not true. Not true at all. I agree that Alabama has a swagger about letting these smaller teams score that I wished we had but some of our best performances have been against SEC caliber since Gus has been around.

We have broke all kinds of records in the 2 SEC championship games as well as having big offensive numbers against Bama and LSU defenses.

Last night was a cleansing of sort but it is what it is. Arkansas State was a bad team and we did what we should have done. Players make big plays and got tons of yards. Its not like we just sit there and pounded them on every down. Players were running up and down the field on big plays

And Chris Todd was basically one play away from beating your 2009 team which was one of your best when we were not very good. So Id take it easy on him

I'm no where close to giving Gus any kinda trophy for beating arky state like that. I am however cautiously optimistic that he learned a valuable lesson in the opener. He did exactly what he should've have done by letting white play the whole game and letting this offense find some sort of identity. You guys act like we are supposed to be doom and gloom but in reality this team is a actually a decent squad. Considering our schedule this season a lot of us were very nervous (and still are) that it'd be a lot uglier than they actually are. Yes arky state was terrible but I stand by what I said. The play calling was what this offense needed and the execution was there because they have do have the talent to play well. Regardless of the opposition, if the talent was t there the execution wouldn't be.

Exactly. As pissed as I still am at Gus about that abortion last week, to say he only pads stats against FCS teams is ill informed.

Probably because neither of you looked like top 25 teams. UCLA proved that yesterday. Complaining about no press when you were bumped all the way to 20?

Racking up 700 yards offense is fine, but it was just Gus getting the Auburn faithful off his back against a woeful Arkansas State team that has now given up nearly 1,300 yards in their first two games.

Well first off, Chris Todd was a pretty terrible player the year before, yet under Malzahn he set school records in several passing categories and the offense that season was one of the best in school history up to that point. Secondly, that team lost some games that they probably shouldn't have, but West Virginia was a top 25 team that went 9-4. They also beat a top 25 Ole Miss team and the UGA and Bama games were decided by one possession late in the 4th quarter. The offense was the only reason that team won any games at all, as the defense was absolutely dreadful that year. The reason Auburn fans reference Chris Todd or Tulsa is to give past examples of Gus running successful offenses without a running QB, and that he used to be capable of building a system around the players he had.

Nothing you said however addresses the point, which is that we let one quarterback play the majority of the game and the offensive gameplan was functional and effective instead of a giant mindfrick like last week. That's all we really care about.

Hammer meet nail

And furthermore, it was just good to open up a can of whoop arse on anybody, no matter who it is. We haven't done that in so long. It will help our Esprit de corps moving forward.
