Longest tenure for Saban anywhere he's been. Final stop?
I've always figured the only place he'd go would be back to the NFL. But I've doubted that sincerely.
The ONLY thing that might change that would be if Schiano & Harbaugh continue to have success. I think that probably eats away at him bigtime. Harbaugh would've gotten choked out by Bama anytime they played them from 2008 through 2011. No question in my mind.
Yet Harbaugh leaves, takes an older RB in Gore and domintes on the ground, a never-was at QB in Alex Smith whom he completely rewrites NFL offenses for by taking away sight adjustments, & makes a good defense great, & goes to the NFC Championship game & ends up two bad ST plays away from the Super Bowl in his 1st year.
That's got to grate on him.
If Schiano makes a run or makes a go of it in Tampa, that might annoy him more. He might be motivated at that point to try it one last time.
But I highly doubt that scenario. He'll be at Bama till he retires.

I'd like to think he's eyeing the prospect of being in the discussion of GOAT coaches. All he needs is 2 more titles and it's a legit argument given the nature of college football now with scholly restrictions and what not. That'd give him 5 total and 4 at UA. I think he has another 5 years in the tank so it's possible.

meh, he certainly got the hell out of louisiana
yeah, that was it, it wasn't the $5M and total control of an NFL franchise he wanted to leave La

the Bucs wanted Chip Kelly! so yes I think a team would roll the dice on saban
No one in the NFL wants him back in the NFL...he blew his chance by the way he treated people

GFunk, I agree with you, I think the only way he'd leave Bama is to the NFL, the only real challange for him to prove he can do it there. The idea that he flopped in the NFL is over blown and I'd could bug him at least a little.

Hey Freep, how's it been going ? The news about our old friend Leo sucked. Look me up next time you're headed towards OB

Thing about Harbaugh is it's not like he's coaching in the AFC North. His division opponents record was 17-31.
They were 5-1 in division, 8-2 out of it.

Not to mention they did lose to the Cowboys
Is that supposed to be some kind of shot at the Cowboys or Cowboy fans? Dallas was 8-8, 1 game behind the NFC Champion Giants. Losing to ULM is a billion times worse and that doesn't mean anything.
If you think Harbaugh was only successful because he had an "easy" schedule, you don't know anything about the NFL

Uh no. My best friend is a Cowboys fan and he said the same thing. Also the Giants lost twice to the Redskins and didn't even have the division locked up until the very last game.

Ok... what does a college game have to do with the NFL???

Not saying he's not successful but it's not like he's playing in a really strong division. I mean the Seahawks won the division last year with a 7-9 record. Look at it like this, I mean the Saints turned it over 5 times and it still took a last minute score to win. I remember the last time that happen was in 07 when the Cowboys were worth something and they did it against Buffalo in the regular season.

Now, I think he's at Bama until he loses interest, dies, or they stop playing football, whichever comes first.
Exactly...with 2 Crystal FB in 3 years, no way that he leaves any other way.

Yeah we take our football seriously. Get in line or get left behind.
Outside of Jindal who would you take over Drew Brees? Sean Payton?

So, you really think losing to an 8-8 team in the NFL is some kind of embarrsing lose? Really? I'm not even sure what the whole point of mention that even is, is it to say the 49ers weren't that good? GB lost to the Chiefs a team worse than Dallas and from a worse division. The Saints lost to the Rams a 2-14 from the 49ers division.

Ok... what does a college game have to do with the NFL???
You are suggesting SF losing to Dallas this year is embarassing or somehow a bad loss I guess. I was using an example of an actual embarassing lose that Nick Saban had. The Cowboys were middle of the pack in their level, ULM was no where close to that at theirs.

What does the strength of the division matter. You play 6 division games 10 non division games.
quote:
I mean the Seahawks won the division last year with a 7-9 record.
Which means the 49ers were worse and yet this year they were 13-3 and the #2 seed in the NFC. Sounds like a helluva coaching job.

well the Saints are a better team, I think the original point was that the success of college coaches like Harbaugh in the NFL could make Saban think he wants to give it another go and or that a team might press him. Really the only scenario I could see him leaving alabama for another job.
Posted on 2/1/12 at 1:48 pm to H-Town Tiger
Saban is where he is at til he is done. He is not going back to the NFL. He hated it and the NFL knows it. None of the best teams/HC positions in the league that it would take to get him out of Bama will come begging for him and give him the power he has at Bama. People are just going to have to learn to accept Saban at Bama for the foreseeable future.

I agree I don't think he will leave for a while, but if he did, it would be to give the NFL another crack not somewhere like Texas or Penn State or something like that.

Dude I'm not saying Jim hasn't done a good job. Just saying his division it's the strongest and against stronger opponents he struggled a bit. But whatever agree to disagree.
