Summary: we poor, we dumb, our trailer is old

quote:

When NIL began that was it for LSU being a top team - money will lead - and is leading LSU to becoming a mediocre program at best. It's just common sense that schools with the most cash and with the big-time mega-rich donors and big corporations support are going to get the best players and that is 90% of the battle. We are all going to witness the Texas schools becoming more and more dominant over the next few years. Louisiana's talent will be raided like never before as LSU's reputation diminishes over the next few years.

Also contributing to this decline is the fact that LSU is ranked low academically, the state of Louisiana is in decline, and our state's economy sucks. LSU can no longer use the "come play in the SEC" recruiting tactic since the SEC has expanded like it has - and will probably continue to do so.

Tiger Stadium is no longer a selling point because we all know that it is not even close to what it used to be. The number of fans who leave early - it looks terrible. Our fans (overall) are just not as dedicated to football as those of other SEC schools. That is a fact. So, when coaches come to LSU and try to recruit - you tell me how they are supposed to compete with the other big time schools in the south. What are LSU's selling points? LSU has no advantage over any of them. Sucks.

Well at least we won 3 NC and played for another one since the bcs era second only to Saban. I’m good with that

I think it’ll wind up with an even broader dispersement of talent

Kids will want to be in the spotlight, and they want playing time and a shot at the NFL

Even for a fat check, they won’t be willing to sit on the bench for three years

Point 2 has some merit. LSU is ranked 176th by US News, which is 13th in conference. Graduation rate is something like 44%. Perception is “good sports, but (maybe) bad diploma.” When you are comparing to others we recruit against, they’ve built an advantage here. Especially A&M, Georgia, and Florida. There are outliers. Bama overcomes their relatively low ranking by having Saban. Vandy can’t overcome a terrible football program.

That's kind of the problem. LSU had a lock on a very talented state. NIL opens it up. Maybe they should spend that baseball money on football.

I'm just curious, is it possible to decline from the absolute bottom?

Besides money, LSU is not a safe environment. I am baffled at how many parents that send their kids to such a high crime area.

Baton Rogue has the highest crime in the SEC.

Not really. Saban has cherry picked who he wanted out of Louisiana since he's been at Bama.

I never really thought about it before but I wonder if crime is hurting attendance. Particularly night games.

I kind of feel like the "NIL thing" has just made recruiting more important. Not recruiting for talent, but recruiting for the right mindset for your players.

While every scholarship player at UGA is getting NIL money, every time they release a list of the highest compensated NIL players from UGA it's always been guys who are the stars of the team making the most money, not recruits who have yet to play.

I kind of think that's important to UGA having success in the NIL era. The players all see the ones getting big bucks are the ones who are showing out on the field, and I think that reduces locker room resentment to a huge degree.

The players coming in are told that while they'll get NIL money at UGA, they won't get huge payouts just to come to UGA, they have to earn that on the field. And while a few come then leave because it's too hard to earn that money, most of the ones who come in seem to stay and wait their turn, which seems to be more and more uncommon for other teams.

I don't know if UGA can continue with how they're doing it, but so far it seems like the better approach then giving an unproven freshman six or seven figures and pissing off the guys already on the team who are playing but making less. We saw that resentment at UT last year when their best defensive player was pissed at their team's QB and it spilled over into a reported locker room tiff. As far as we know, UGA isn't having to deal with that stuff.

They are in total shock.

They are finding out why people laughed at them all over the Internet when they were talking "Brian Kelly gonna get us another 'ship' this year."

I guess the Times Square billboard touting LSU and NIL was a gross miscalculation of what was going to actually happen? The very school that fully embraced it and spent money to promote in New fricking York City now feels victimized by it. Welp… tough shite.

Regardless of the NIL, LSU had superior talent almost across the board last night. They recruit at a much higher level than Ole Miss even with NIL. NIL had nothing to do with Ole Miss game.

I’m making biscuits

Cmon over

I just don’t think NIL is going to do what people fear it’s going to do. I think it will do the opposite when combined with the modern transfer portal.

Schools like UTrans and Ohio State have always brought their greatest classes, absolutely nothing has changed with regard to that
