Are you agreeing with me now? Noone ever claimed us to be great, or even good, just improved. We are. I realize your obvious intent was to flame so I won't take this conversation any further.

that's where you're a fool. Auburn gave up over 34 points in 3 of their first 5 games last year.

the most Auburn has given up this year is 28 in a game.

this number will drastically improve this week if Auburn doesn't give up 38 points like they did in their 6th game last year.

I'm not a fool. I was using your scoring defense for the season last year. Not the first 6 games. Also, your scoring defense will only improve should Auburn hold its opponent below 23 points. #howaverageswork

Uhh yeah, thats exactly what that other bro back there said. "if the problem was on defense." A direct implication that the defense is not the problem. It is a huge fricking problem, surpassed only by your offense which is amazingly even worse.

Your interior d-line is trash. Linebackers and defensive backs among the worst in the conference. But congrats on the slight improvement over last years unit.

Stop with the flaming just a bit. TT, DDA, et al., why exactly do you care one way or the other if Martinez is retained? Was he how BVG got to campus?

don't give a frick...the defense looks better than last year. I didn't expect a miracle in the 1st year. I just want to see improvement as the year continues.

I don't.

I wasn't really speaking for Martinez as much as I was in response to the defense being "absolutely terrible". They haven't been very good in terms of yards allowed but they've kept them in a number of games (Clemson, ULM, LSU).

Durrrrrr, the offense is the problem. The defense is improved from last year. Nobody said it was a great improvement, but it is still, indeed, an improvement. The offense can't even stay on the field to muster some first downs, much less give the defense an actual rest. Nobody said the defense wasn't a problem, we're just saying it isn't the problem.

Understand?

Again, I guess you agree. Apparently, any form of improvement is a moral victory with you.

I think BVG was how Martinez got to campus. I just see him being retained because Auburn fans do see a bit of improvement in the secondary. Do I care one way or the other? Meh, if BVG wants him there, that's fine with me.

The defense will make it's largest improvement, the day Jake Holland is no longer in an AU uniform. Until then we will be below average, struggling for average at best.

It's cute that you think I'm some kind of tard, guy. By the way how's the year off you needed before starting community college going? I know you think that English is stupid and a waste of time (lol) but you might wanna see of they offer something that could boost your reading comprehension down there in bumfrick.

On the subject at hand, just because the offense is worse doesn't mean both aren't problems. Your defense is awful. It is debatable whether there has been any improvement at all, despite these cute little numbers you've come up with to convince yourself there's been improvement. I wonder though, if there's been so much improvement, what happened this past weekend? Was Arkansas not averaging 5 points a game in conference? If you wanna hang your hat on a moral victory like that, go right ahead, I'll be right over here loling my face off.

Point remains: the guy said your problems aren't on defense. I'm here to tell him, yes they fricking are. They're on defense, offense, everywhere. The team and defense are a smoldering dumpster fire. Gonna be that way as long as Chizik, the supposed defensive mastermind, is running things.

Awww, I can't believe it took you so long to jump on this subject. I guess you will never learn, huh?

I hope you had a good time shitting in this thread.

I think it's debatable when arguing whether or not there has been any improvement on defense. First off our tackling has been horrible the past few years, but I've seen signs of a few guys ( mostly younger) that have shown they can make a solid tackle instead of the bullshite "hit them as hard as you can but don't wrap up" that was being taught for the past 3 years. I also see us trying to come up and press a little more often vs the 10 yard cushions that have been standard the past 3 years. Our LB's across the board are complete garbage, especially at MLB, but we're fricking stuck with what we have right now. Our interior dline has also been subpar. They looked ok against LSU, but I don't think they got off the bus vs Arky.

So are they world beaters just yet? No.. We still have a lot of dumpster fires to put out, especially at the LB position. Processing Holland would be a great start IMO

That's a fair analysis. Still, my initial comments were in response to an auburn poster dismissing this thread by stating "our problems aren't on defense." Surely you would acknowledge that there are a lot, like a lot, of problems on defense. Someone else commented that the defense kept them in the lamo game. What second half was he watching? And as far as improvement over the course of the season is concerned, last week was arguably the worst performance yet. That's all I'm saying. This is a valid thread. Auburn still has major problems on defense. That there has been improvement in the ways you describe, speaks only to how bad last year's and all of the years under chizik's defenses have been.

Wait lemme get this straight. You don't think you have problems on defense?

The defense is much improved, the offense has turned the ball over 17 times thus far this year. It is hard for the defense to put up any kind of good numbers with that issue.

We have played some decent teams on offense. Like it or not, Arkansas, Clemson and ULM are decent on offense. Miss St is not bad either. The only horrible offensive team, LSU, we held to 10 offensive points.

Until the 4th quarter, Arkansas's offense was held at bay as well

Its improved from last year and pretty much improving every game.

Statistically it does not look great for yards but for points, they are holding their own.

You should have just flamed about something that was easy. You failed on this

I think what he meant by the defense isn't the problem is not that there aren't problem on defense, but BVG appears to know what the frick he is doing in terms of turning the defense around. ( see examples above)

All in all the defense has been a giant sack of shite for the past 3 years and it's not gonna get better over night. The secondary appears to be on it's way. There is no hope for the lb's this year and they will probably need a couple years to get where they need to be. The d line has talent, but is seriously under performing, due to poor coaching.

Auburn's defense is shitty and a problem. That was my point. I would say its pretty obvious and that I have successfully made this point. Not a fail.

And Arkansas is not good on offense this year. And Louisiana Monroe is Louisiana Monroe.
