No one likes Tennessee. Not even CBS.
I wasn't around when they were good so I don't know what UT did to make everyone continue to dislike them even after over a decade of sucking.
From what I've seen here, for the most part, even Tennessee dislikes Tennessee.

If it were up to me, there would be a hierarchy for showing teams on CBS.

0x- Kentucky, Vandy

Your football team is always terrible and nobody cares.

1x- Missouri, South Carolina, Mississippi State

Completely irrelevant programs who put together a decent team maybe once every five years.

2x- Arkansas, Texas A&M

Middling programs who are capable of fielding contenders when they have a good coach in place. Unfortunately that seems to happens about twice every 50 years for both schools.

I don't understand how you pass up the State/LSU matchup during prime time.

CBS has a finite number of primetime slots to use throughout the season. In addition to being obligated to show each team at least twice a year, MSU-LSU doesn't qualify as being deserving of night time on CBS relative to other games throughout the season and I think we'd all agree that a late kickoff if optimal for that atmosphere. So, ESPN at 8 it is.

Vandy has to be shown on CBS too. So just throw a crap game on TV for now before the good conference games start. Problem solved.

I thought it had to do with showing every team a certain number of times

Might as well get this out of the way most of the marquee games the rest of the year are west vs west teams except UA vs UGA the east vs east games are not very good ranked vs ranked games

UT hillbillies have the audacity to question a TV broadcast? You know we started having 12 Noon games with UT because of their crappy record back when JP was around.

Thank God we have ESPN/SECN now and a bigger contract with TV rights for SEC games. Vandy may be better than people think...at least defensively. Give em some time to get the right peices...Mason may turn out better than some people give him credit for.

Watch Vandy win. Marky always loses a game he should win each year.

I'm pretty sure we can kill a team that only beat a shite team by 29 points.

This is the first time in the SEC contract era that CBS has aired games this early. Typically they wouldn't start until week three. (This is due to them dumping the US Open) So it is very possible they weren't allowed to steal the LSU/State game from ESPN.

CBS does not get the first pick until after week 3. Also, each team must have a number of games in a certain time period (not sure on those specifics). I'm sure they would have preferred LSU/MSU but they didn't get a chance to pick that game.

I don't know why anyone is bitching though. CBS blows.

Found in my Evernote where I wrote this.

All 14 teams must appear on CBS twice over a four year period.

No team may appear on CBS more than five times in a single season (why Egg Bowl was CBS instead of Iron Bowl last year).

For majority of season, CBS gets first pick for its 2:30 time slot, ESPN gets first choice for one SEC weekend.

There are two CBS doubleheaders, one morning/afternoon and one afternoon/evening. On these weeks, the SEC gets 1st and 4th picks.

ESPN's family of networks (including SEC Network) determines all non-CBS game times. Traditional slots are 11 am, 3 pm, 5:45 pm, 6 pm, 7 pm and 8:15 pm, but are subject to change. ESPN also airs ACC and Big Ten games (although ABC is allowed to show these bigger primetime games). It is up to ESPN to place times and networks. ESPN Family has 14 available timeslots each Saturday on ABC, ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU and SEC Network. ESPNNews can be used on weeks where there is a higher number of games.

Non-conference games at neutral sites can appear on ABC. CBS does not allow ESPN to place SEC/SEC games on ABC. Non-conference road games are subject to home opponent's conference TV contract. If no contract exists, or a game is not featured in a non-conference TV package, that game can appear on the SEC Network or ESPN3 only.

Moreover, its likely to be State's only top 25 matchup of the year.
