Uhhhh, we ran out the final 10 minutes in the 4th without scoring. And could easily have done so. So...

This was the first game of the season, and the coaching staff had not seen most of their offensive players in a game-type situation. Also, the guys needed playing time for the experience. Let's look at it.

QB. First start ever. Playing cupcakes for the next four weeks and will get minimal playing time in those games, because he will likely be pulled at the half (if not sooner).

O-Line. Sure, four returning starters, but you routinely grow your big guys with a redshirt season and don't have lots of spares. Do you really want to blow a redshirt for a potential 2017 stud, just to salve South Carolina feelings? No.

RBs. Not one starter from last year.

Receivers. Again, not a single returning starter. Young guys who need some experience. Keep in mind, also, that Hill hit something like eleven different receivers. Who else would you recommend Sumlin play? The ball girl?

Go back and listen to what he had to say on the subject when he was at Florida.

yeah, but go back & look who was in the game after it was out of hand when he said it. he wasnt wrong in saying if you dont like it its your job to do something about it but Spurrier would put his backups in & just keep running his offense. Spurrier didnt make a habit of leaving his starters in to run it up.

Yeah, I don't think I would honestly have a problem if a team put in their second string and got them running the same offense/defense to get actual game experience. It never made any sense to me put in the second and third teams and then have them run a completely different game plan. What good does that do?

Are you talking overall or during that drive? The reason I ask is because Malcome Kennedy is most definitely a returning starter.

I wish Saban would learn a thing or two from guys like Sumlin. Grinding clock to get out of a blowout breeds complacency.

I thought he had gotten away from his prevent offense, after the scare against UTx. Which I don't consider trying to milk the clock in the 4th. But in his first 2 title game appearances, it really looked like the entire 2nd half was almost completely run based in both games. IIRC.

Didn't CSS hang 70 on Coastal Carolina last year?

We could drop 56 on all the scrub teams we play (like FAU and USM this year), but never do. He could be more ruthless.

We also used five different QBs in that game... when you're throwing out your fifth string QB I think it's ok to keep scoring...

No You're not. You are just upset and aggravated that your team got beat, that's all. We've all been there. We were there last season at this exact time. It's disappointing and disheartening and perfectly understandable.

Eh... I should have at least watched the game again after the emotion had died down before I started the thread. I'll take my lumps for starting a shite thread. But thanks for the consolation.

Against a ranked opponent, I have no problem with running up the score. Doing that to Florida Atlantic or Sam Houston State is another matter as they are completely outmatched. And Spurrier deserves it more than just about anyone.

Why? If you are beating up a weakling on the playground or kicking similarly matched opponent when they are down, aren't they both equally as shitty? And a bully getting bullied doesn't dignify bullying...

1. He purposefully held the ball to run out the clock, even Spurrier acknowledged this in his post game press conference. He just didn't want to give the ball back to USC so they could throw another bomb pass on our defense.

2. Our offense slings the ball around, it's our bread and butter, a staple diet. If you don't like it, stop it.

People, make up your minds.

Six days ago, the Ags were so bad that they should not have been allowed on the same field with a "real" SEC team (so sayeth the Rant).

Today, the Ags are so good that they should have taken a knee for the entire fourth quarter, as a matter of mercy to their (Top Ten) opponents.

Which is it? You cannot have it both ways.

I love tRant. Loather, the poor bastard, admitted he was wrong like 3 pages ago, but since no one reads the whole thread, they keep piling on!
