Is there a preferred time of year for the NCAA to announce penalties?

Ole Miss has a potential guillotine hanging over it's neck. Is the blade likely to drop during the football season, or does the NCAA usually wait until the off season to levy penalties? It seems fair that potential recruits understand where Ole Miss stands.

Ole Miss is fricked no matter the timing, although I suspect sometime between 4/16 and 4/25

Summertime or january. SMU in 81 and Florida in 84 are the only times I remember penalties coming down during the season.

Based on how this season is playing out, OM probably wishes they had already gotten the ball rolling on the penalties.
Don't be shocked with they self-impose a bowl ban.

I think they should announce the penalties the day before national signing day.
