So you're saying LSU is at the bottom of a conference that's not as good as usual?

2008 Florida, 2010 Auburn and 2011 Alabama would shite all over the SEC right now, IMO. As would 2006 LSU (but they aren't national champions which the OP discussed) and probably a few other teams that aren't coming to mind.
I said it after Auburn nearly lost to K-State, I think CFB as a whole might actually be down this year. I normally feel like when people say that it's because the brand-name programs are struggling, but there aren't any truly dominant teams this year. Just last year we had FSU and (until @Aub) Alabama, and if you go back another couple years you'll find plenty of really strong squads.
My guess is that the changes in the NFL's rookie compensation led to this. We know a lot of teams have been hit hard by defection to the NFL due to those changes, it makes sense that the product on the field is a little worse for it.

The fact that LSU is #15 and might be the worst team in the west (really, right now AT BEST we are 6th) tells you just how stacked the division is.
I'd bet that the team that finishes last in the SEC west this year would very handily beat all but 20-25 teams in the country.
I also think, right now, LSU is the only team in the West MIGHT lose more than 1 game vs all of the SEC east teams.

Yes. And? I would have included us, and the two Mississippi schools had any of us had Bear on our sidelines except as a visiting coach. But we didn't, so there aren't even any exceptions in our cases.
Or were you under the impression I was unaware of Vanderbilt's history of futility? Unlike many LSU fans, I'm quite willing to admit we've sucked fairly consistently over time.
