I don't think so. I think a one loss power 5 champ gets in over a 1 loss sec or SECw runner up, which is complete bull shite and contrary to what they've said they'll do.

Take Michigan State versus Mississippi State for example.

Ah frick it, let's don't.

But getting back to Mizzou, they don't have a chance.

While a 2 loss team may get in, a 2 loss team with a home loss to Wake Forest, Kansas, Indiana, Colorado, or Vanderbilt is already DOA.

Nope. Mizzou would not make the playoff. The two losses are bad losses.

I could see a VERY minute chance IF Mizzou has blowouts vs every opponent left and then destroys a #1 ranked SECW team in Atlanta. If a case could be made Mizzou might be the hottest team in the country at the end of the season, I'd give Mizzou a 20% chance of making it.

I think the committee would be most comfortable ignoring a conference champion if it is to the benefit of another team within that conference.

with the east west skewed so hard this year in the SEC, could anyone really blame the committee for essentially saying "what you did all year is more important than that one game in Atlanta"?

Obviously there are lots of things at stake, but assuming the SECw Rep is coming out of egg bowl or iron bowl, those games are probably going to be absolute wars. Could you really drop 12-1 Mississippi State for a 11-2 Georgia, or 11-2 Missouri? In that situation taking both would obviously be desired, but if you HAD to pick one? H2H and Conference champs are important, but so is total resume. I would go with Miss St. just my opinion.

In that scenario though..

Mississippi St would have just lost in the SEC championship to either Mizzou or Georgia the prior week.

No. If Mizzou won, it'd be a prime opportunity to show the country the "we don't care about conference" game works for the SEC too.

Not saying they wouldn't get in, but I think it'd be dicey.

I don't know why everyone keeps saying the SEC champ will automatically be in the playoffs. Yes, it is extremely likely but it's not like there is a reserved seed for whoever wins the SEC. Plenty of scenarios could keep an SEC team out

If it's a 2 loss team, particularly an east team, there is a very real chance they get left out.

Maybe, maybe not.

Obviously the way the game played would have a lot to do with the judgment, and I know people hate the idea of teams backing into the playoff, but say Mississippi St loses a hard fight shootout with Missouri 37-30; I just can't accept head to head as the only judgment. I don't think the committee will either.

For example, a 1 loss Ole Miss team winning the SEC West but gets crushed by a 2 loss UGA. There could potentially be several undefeated or 1 loss teams ahead of each SEC team in the rankings, which then comes down to the committee.

People forget that the selection committee is nothing like the BCS, there is no set formula or pattern. It comes down each individual voters criteria and what they consider to be the best qualifications.

Don't look now...but the east winner could have three losses! And don't think for a minute that the west will surely have at worse a one loss team repping in the SECCG. There may be a bunch of 2 loss teams in the west by the time the smoke clears.

Vols will beat Missouri so this is a moot point.

But I agree with the Baylor fan in that the West 1 loss team would get in over a two loss UGA or Missouri SEC champ.

UGA would have a better shot if their second loss is two Auburn. That is because they don't have a home loss to a bottom feeding Big Ten team.

It really all depends on which SEC west team it would be and whatever team beat them. I think UGA would get a spot if they won the SEC but not Mizzou
