Until the committee actually shows us what it thinks by releasing inseason standings, it's silly to make assumptions about how SoS will be treated. I think it is most likely the committee will want to avoid rocking the boat, and their rankings will not be significantly different than the polls, but it also wouldn't surprise me if Baylor was a good 5-10 spots lower than in the polls as a statement against our nonconference schedule. A&M could see this kind of backlash also. As the season continues both schools would see their SoS go up a lot, and at this point I don't see how an undefeated Baylor or an 1-2 SEC champ A&M (or any other SEC team) doesn't end up easily in the playoffs. BYU is another matter. Notre Dame has a good schedule and would deserve consideration if they did well.

It's gonna become clearer, what was it? week 12 last year and 4 teams were still undefeated?

At this point, with the big10 self destructing and the Pac12/ACC both making their premier programs look vulnerable the SEC already looks as likely to get two teams in as it is 1, and zero teams in is inconceivable. If Auburn knocks off K-State this thursday, the SEC will be the only conference to get to conference play without having a loss in a game they weren't heavy dogs in.

I think a playoff doesn't help to its fullest until t he playoff is expanded to 8 teams. No way in hell that AT LEAST the SEC champ is included in the top 8 teams.

That may be the worst, most ill informed, synopsis I've ever read.

This was the only reasonable point in your entire post.

The top SEC team will always get in, that won't change. However, you will never see two SEC teams in the championship again.

Not necessarily.

A two loss SEC Champion could be left-out under any number of scenarios.

Bingo. Everyone agrees the SEC West is brutal this year, and yet nobody seems to realize that could result in a two loss champion.

But with the playoff system, there's also any number of scenarios where a 2 loss SEC champ gets in. No way that would happen in the BCS.

I still think that there needs to be 6 playoff teams with the top 2 seeds getting a bye.

This would make the championship games defacto play- in games, and the two remaining spots "wild cards." Make seeds 3-6 play the weekend before Christmas, and next games as planned on NYD, with the championship the week after.

Use the 6 big bowls and bid on the championship site.

This would fix it.

Oh, and the SEC needs to go to 9 conference games and ban games against FCS teams! :)

remember when everybody thought the SEC championship game would kill the SEC in bowl season..

while a worst case scenario can happen it's kind of stupid to assume it always will.

I would like to see them do away with conference championships and expand the playoffs to 8 teams. You would probably get two or three sec teams in most years that way.
