Auburn's last 3 coaches (4 if you count Chizik) haven't exactly gone out with a bang at the end of their tenures.

You could make that comment at a lot of schools, but the last 3 all had undefeated seasons...

Shug (SEC, Nattie)
Barfield (UGLY)
Dye (4 SEC)(Secondary NC)
Bowden (Undefeated - secondary NC)
Tubs (Undefeated - Secondary NC)
Chizik (Undefeated - Nattie)

Almost any coach can be successful at Auburn...

Arky has full state support, Auburn has like 10% state support, 90% are Bama fans. Plus what parent would let their kid play for petrino now? AU would be getting 2 star kids.

Wasn't trying to take anything away from their accomplishments. I was just saying they didn't exactly leave on a high note (Dye and Tuberville after shutout losses to Alabama; Bowden after a 1-5 start, etc) compared to a lot of other notable SEC head coaches.

i saw a vid by that coaching search guy that had us as one of the top 15 jobs. i didn't say that- he did- and i'm quite certain he's not a hog fan.

his reasoning was twofold- one main reason was long being the ad and his reputation among coaches (it's pretty swell evidently). what about jay jacobs? i've seen many of the aub fans complaining about him- is he going to get canned? if so, how is their dumpster fire not a bigger fire than ours?

Probably where a bunch of polls not including the AP/Coaches select you as NC.

In 1983 more polls selected AU as NC than EITHER Miami or Neb. AU was the TRUE 1983 NC.

We have actually had seven coaches in the last 60 years if you include Bill Oliver.

Arkansas is never going to be able to compete in the SEC West. They don't have the recruiting base. Petrino at Auburn is pretty scary.

While this might be true, I see it as a huge PR mistake for Auburn. So much so that I just don't see it happening. It's somewhat analogous to Tennessee hiring Kiffin and then feeling the need to hire someone like Dooley to clean up the mess.

Auburn is an important part of the foundation of the SEC. The just won the SECC and the NC 2010. They should be able to find a credible coach who can win 8-10 games consistently. They have a solid DC in VanGorder. They should hire Malzahn as HC, let him pick his own assistant HC to do the administrative stuff freeing Malzahn up to be his own OC until he can train someone to take over. This is pretty much what Richt did with Mike Bobo.

Arkansas is a better job than Auburn because:

1) Only school in state as far as recruiting, resources $$ and can recruit Texas.
2) See #1. Aurburn fans will not agree but will always be second fiddle to BAMA. Sorry but true!!
3) Arkansas has more financial resources than Auburn - Wal-Mart & Tyson money
4) 10-2, 11-1 solid bowl games are successful seasons at Arkansas. Not enough at Auburn especially if the 1 or 2 losses are to BAMA
5) Nick Saban - see #2 (disclaimer I hate Saban as much as anyone - but cant dispute his success)
6) NCAA sanctions looming at the dumpster fire on the plains -- GOOD LUCK W/ THAT
7) Last but not least - Mocha Jesus (Cam) is not coming back or being reincarnated - so enjoy your BOUGHT & PAID for Natty - it will be a long time before you ever snif
