He is trying to position himself as a sympathetic character. Will make it look like everything was against him for when he leaves for Oregon State.

He doesn’t even have to prove them. All he had to do was tell UF Police that a few drunk college kids drove by his house and yelled “Please die McElwein” and that he isn’t worried about it. Then all UF Police has to say was “We take every threat seriously and will investigate the matter.” Then everyone moves on.

McElwein screwed up by trying too hard to get sympathy and the UF Police threw him under he bus.

The Florida administration could have easily "saved" McElwain by issuing a statement after meeting with him to "clear up" the statements he made by pointing out that he was not speaking to specific threats and instead was referring to threats in general or some BS like that. But not only did they not do that, they issued a statement that essentially calls him a liar. The powers that be appear to be after his shark-humping @ss. In the end, my only wish is that he gets exactly what he deserves.
