Is Mason really that bad?

Didn't watch Vandy's first two games. But watched their USC game.
I really think the big set type offense is a good offense for Vandy to run. It's unique in the SEC, and when they find their QB, instead of the stupid rotation they have now. There's alot they can do within it. They dont utilize the play-action nearly as much as they should.
They need a good defense, at least a fundamentally sound defense that can make stops. Which is something they dont have now. Because their O isn't really meant to outscore anyone in a shootout.
I also heard Vandy is playing more true freshmen than any other team. Did Franklin really leave the cupboard that bare?

They are getting better, but losing their "starting" Qb to a concussion doesnt help

Vandy 34, UMass 31. UMass is at the rock bottom of the Bottom 10. (Vandy hanging in at #6.) Sorry, but scheme and seniority are irrelevant.

The Vanderbilt administration made a huge mistake hiring mason. He's only been a coordinator around 2 years his entire career. He has NO recruiting ties in the south or this area. He is not experienced enough to run the football organization.
He walked in to the Vanderbilt interview and talked his arse off. Vandy also made the assumption that because he was a black man that he would have more appeal to recruits. There is a lot of mistakes on both ends of the deal. This deal screwed the program, the fans, and the school.

I have no fricking respect for someone who doesn't do their job. I have lost a lot of respect for the Vanderbilt administration. From a numbers standpoint they will lose a lot of money in merchandising and ticket sales. The AD should be on thin ice with this decision.
It's not a 20/20 thing either its the fact that he didn't do his homework before hiring Mason. Any idiot can look around the SEC and look at the resume of the competing coaches. To hire Mason was like hiring a kid out of college to run the business. Very disgusting.

Joker Phillips should explain why that assumption is wrong. The dude couldnt recruit for shite, and had ties to the region.
Vandy doesnt have alot options, even when they come off the best run of their entire programs history. They have to take a shot on an up and comer.
I dont think he is good by any comparison right now, I just assumed he was horrible after watching bits of the first two games. But I was comparing them to last year Vandy, and this is not the same team.
I dont know if Franklin or any coach would do well this year with this team.

Nobody from the south will play at Vandy anyway. They hired him to recruit nationally. I seriously doubt you are smarter than anyone that works for Vanderbilt.
Let me ask you then, would you have hired Derek Mason?

I can't believe Vandy didn't try to go after a good mid major coach or more established coordinator. They were ready to throw the bank at James Franklin and that alone had me convinced that Vandy was turning the corner and willing to do what ever it takes to get the right man for the job. The Mason hire was a step in the opposite direction. But who knows, maybe he will get things rolling in Nashville.

Tennessee has played the most freshmen in the nation

That's not true. Vanderbilt has played 31 freshmen this year.
