Is making the Final Four the best consolation award in sports?

To me it's the closest feeling to winning a championship without winning the championship. Schools have reunions to celebrate their Final Four teams. I guess it has something to do with just 2 weeks ago 351 college teams had an equal shot of winning it all. Nobody celebrates the semifinals in CFB like it's a huge accomplishment.

I think it is a good question. I think you are right. LSU celebrates final fours having never won the tournament. Lots of schools do that. In fact it is one standard that is used to determine the historical significance of a basketball program - especially those without championships.

Man you Bammer fans that jumped the OP are sensitive. Your team just made their first final four and your insecurity explodes at anything you think might be a shot.

Winning a region in college basketball is a big deal and I think became an even bigger deal as the bracket expanded to 68 teams.

Why are you attacking me in a thread that isn't a troll though?

I mean we have the second most NCs in MBB and celebrate Final Fours. IMO it’s largely because winning a 60+ team tournament is hard and a fair amount of it is chance/matchups/things outside of your control.

ETA: Comparing football and basketball is apples and oranges.

I agree. The Final Four is talked about more than the national championship…

You must have missed Les Miles and LSU's SEC championship rings in 2011.

Just stick to posting for now and no more threads. Build back your rep if you even care.

They do win something. There's a trophy and everything for winning the region. They cut down nets.

I’m beginning to like this poster. At first, the 3rd person references were a bit obnoxious, but the posts are consistently high quality. And he’s right about the Disney gator thing. I feel for Florida fans dealing with the virtue signaling disease that is harming their sports programs.

Cheers to theCAW.
