because of the failures of Will Muschamp, Jim McElwain, and Derek Dooley?

He lost that luster 4 years ago.

He pretty much missed his chance to grab a big job.

I think he missed his best window about four years ago as well.
Make the move while you are the hot commodity.

mehhhhh I don't really think so, his resume is still solid. What I would be concerned about, I think, if I'm an organization looking at him is that 11 of his 12 seasons as a coach have all been with Saban. Granted if you're gonna stick with someone that long it's good that he's one of the elite coaches in the game. But all he has ever done has been under Saban's wing, I would imagine people would have liked to see him branch out and do something on his own for a bit.
But, like I said...he still has name recognition, some national titles, and an elite mentor so he'll definitely get a shot somewhere whenever he's ready.

He should have moved on after the 2012 season.
My fear is that he's Bama's silent CiW.

One of these is not like the other.
Nice bait, btw.

Jim McElwain has coached literally 3 games at Florida and did well at CSU. He's in no way a failure (yet)

Would make sense. When a legend like Saban moves on the tendency is to try to keep things going, like Oregon did post-Kelly.
Blowing it all up and starting over requires a level of patience that a post-Saban Bama fanbase won't have, plus it is getting harder and harder to get a splash coach.

Wasn't he once considered to be looking for the right opportunity?

I'll be honest, I think he's stuck around too long. I think as a HC candidate you have to strike while the iron is hot.
I think he's lost some luster. He may still be a great head coach, but I think teams won't be quite as eager to hire him.

I'll bite.
I get the Muschamp and Dooley failures but are you just trolling with the McElwain comment or are you just infected with the dumb?

Like Kingsbury. He cleaned up after leaving Aggieland.

Kingsbury also got offered his dream job. I don't know how many other P5 teams would have gone for him at that point, Tech knew he would never leave and they knew he would never turn it down
That extension is where he really cleaned up
