It seems like they will have a lot coming back this year. They have 9 starters on offense and 6 on defense. They went 5-7 back to back years but had the opportunity to win 4 more and couldn't pull it out.

I think most predict they go bowling this year but they could pull a few upsets over one of the big three in the east this year.

The defense will be thin. And no, even though I think they have a good shot at 6 wins and will retain Stoops.

Then they aren't underrated.

No imo. They are so slow especially on defense. Reminds me of a Dooley Tennessee team.

I vote for Vanderbilt. They will be bad on offense but I think their defense will be legit. The Commodores will finish 4th in the east

Mizzou is really the only answer.

I mean, we did that last year. I don't know why that would surprise anyone. I don't see UK, SC, or Missouri giving any reason to have improved more than Vandy did.

If Vandy can put together an offense, they would be pretty good. Their defense is legit.

I was going to say Missouri was the most underrated but Kentucky will have a better offense than them. Defense will make it or break it this year for Kentucky though.

You're not beating UK with a trick play this year, so I'm not sure what the plan is.

Obviously it's a lot more nuanced than that. I doubt UK's new offensive coordinator decides to more or less throw away three trips inside the five, and I would assume (hope) our defense can stop a trick play, or that they might be in the lookout for that shite. Also, the game is in Lexington.

Well UK will have a new starting QB with Barker who has a much better grasp of his role and the playbook. Boom is healthy again and a new OC in Eddie Gran who actually knows how to use his RBs (and UK has a quality duo between Kemp and Boom).

They'll be much improved on offense IMO. The defense was thin last season as well, especially after injuries so that'll probably be about the same.

Yeah I've given up worrying about the defense. It's always been bad. How much worse will it be, really? We have been (relatively speaking) good when we can out score people. This year looks to finally be a return to that.

Yeah, obviously, going back to replay that game it could go either way. I don't think Vandy is far and away better than UK (at least, I don't see any for it in preseason). I also don't see why predicting Vandy to finish higher than UK, or the 2 other teams at the bottom half of the East, this year after they did it last year is at all surprising or unbelievable.

Until the season starts, I don't see any reason to think ANY of those 4 (Vandy, UK, SC, or Missouri) will be dramatically better. Each of them have serious question marks. Each of them are hinging on big improvements at critical positions. I just think of the 4 that Vandy's defense will make the difference with honorable mentions to improving atrocious STs.

I'm not saying UK won't be better. I just don't see any obvious reasons they improved MORE than Vandy. Shurmur gets another year in the playbook while having all of the 1st team reps in camp. The team as a whole gets to have their first season not learning a new system since Franklin's last year. The defense will probably be even better (even if the jump isn't as dramatic as it was from 2014 to 2015). Khari Blasingame looks like he could finally be the guy who can spell Ralph Webb in the backfield. CJ Duncan is healthy after missing all of last season along with a handful of other potential pass catches who were hampered last year due to injuries.

My point is simply that when you start comparing how each of the 4 teams improved and how each might have regressed, it's a crapshoot to pick preseason. I think once the season starts that we'll find out who is going to really be garbage and who is going to step up some this year.

Who does Vandy have from the West? Could be a big factor here.

I think we beat y'all this year in Lex, but we also have a relatively weak west opponent in MSU at home.

Ole Miss at home and Auburn at Jordan-Hare. Both games are in November, so AU COULD be flaming garbage by then (not that I want to happen, obviously). The Ole Miss game is obviously a longshot, but Mason's scheming could easily have the Gus Bus grind to a halt. It'll be interesting.

Kentucky has more talent than vandy on both sides of the ball but got beat because of towels.
