Does anyone have a photo of John Chavis smiling?

He's from Dillon, SC. I've met John before, he's a few years my junior, but I remember well when he left the state to go to Tennessee. He was teammates with a kid by the name of Popcorn Stevie Lee at Dillon that signed with South Carolina in '76 I believe it was.
Popcorn's Dad told me long ago that Chavis' ethnicity was half Cherokee and half African-American. But up in that part of the state, all around Dillon, Darlington, Hartsville, McBee, etc., there are a bunch of Lumbees who have mixed with the African-Americans - so I'm sure, because of the money involved, most of those mixed prefer to choose their Native American heritage over their African-American heritage. I know a few as a matter of fact.
Who cares.
Chavis is a helluva coach and recruiter. When he was at UT he owned SC both on the field and in the recruiting wars.
In the end, at UT, it was ironic that John lost his job after Spurrier beat them in 2009 I think it was, or maybe '08, I can't remember. Funny part was that Spurrier wanted to hire Chavis away from Fulmer and UT the year before. But Chavis wanted to stay at UT and Spurrier went after the guy in Atlanta who left a week later and then Spurrier ended-up hiring another South Carolinian in Ellis Johnson.
So two of the more prominent DCs in SEC history have come out of the state of SC, as have many of the more prominent defensive players, but SC has only recently been able to take advantage of the defensive talent grown in this state.
ETA: Lumbee Indians are a helluva story and they kicked-arse after the Civil War helping us to run the yankee carpet baggers out of this state eventually. They are Carolina Native Americans, both states.

Now that he's in Louisiana, he's Creole. It's science, dude. Don't they teach science at UT?

Chavis is a melungeon name in this area. ETA: and by adding Lumbee on his mom's side (essentially the same as Melungeon), Chavis is triracial.

Not unless he was born in Africa and wants to call himself "African American" now that he's a citizen here.

are u asking if hes mixed? black and white? if you have to ask if hes black,,,,then no, hes not. people are so scared to sound racist that anyone who might, could be, possibly, theres a chance,.....be one tenth black... is not only considered 100% black, but people who cant even tell by looking at them, have to ask if they are black and then make sure they say african american too..like i wonder if mariah carey is black?? you wonder? just look..is she? no ok ..is she mixed??? maybe thats a whole other question
