Is it really Chavis's fault that all of the ArmTackleU players are soft?

He's a good DC. Top ten in college football for sure. With that being said, I'm glad aTm "took" him away from us. He is not nearly as bad as Arm Tackle makes him look though. Those boys are SOFT. Texas boys, compared to the rest of the south, are soft. This might be because all of the best athletes want to play offense...IDK why it's infecting the big 12 so badly.

Does anyone else have any clue as to why aTm players curl up in the fetal position late in the season?

No, since he didn't bother to recruit any of them.

Actually, I think you are mostly right. Texas LB's are MIA. Look at recruiting lists.

There is no Power 5 Texas team among the top 50 defenses in the sport.

I think that says a lot.

There are good defensive players, but they accentuate the offense in Texas like crazy.

7-4 teams should really learn their place. If I recall, we scored 39 on your team.

But, to answer your question, the defense is improving. We've got to get some depth in the middle, which is what is supposedly happening with recruiting.

Nah, I don't think that is it.

The problem is all the money and focus at the high school level. Part of the whole recruiting game is factoring in what happens when a kid from a regular high school gets developed by top coaches in top facilities with top strength and conditioning. At a lot of high schools in Texas the players get developed better than they would get at mid-major colleges. So talent peaks early, and college coaches have to figure out which ones are already at their ceiling.

Nick Saban has done an amazing job identifying which Texas players still have room to grow. A lot of teams in Texas (including A&M) haven't, and I think that is because we are too happy to take Mr. Peaked Senior Year of High School because our recruiting rankings look better with more four stars.

maybe,,,,just maybe,,, that might have something to do with us scoring at will? maybe? shite LSU was scoring on 5 play drives? LSU was trying to run out the clock but aggie players didn't want to tackle, that's not LSU's fault.

This is what recruiters were saying about kids in Louisiana who attend West Monroe high. They have a college level S&C program with legit facilities. They also tend to hold their kids back when they're young, so they say a ton of the kids don't have a lot of upside because they're closer to being maxed out genetically before the next level.

Exactly. Then you take all those developed players and suddenly a high school coach can run a sophisticated offense instead of what high schools usually run.

These sophisticated offenses then attract a lot of attention, which leads to talented players wanting to play on offense instead of defense. Rinse and repeat for years and eventually the colleges in the state lack the raw materials we need.

I think our most consistent defensive player was a three star from Louisiana. He had to work to get where he is which put him ahead of the Texas boys.

Some day someone is going to figure it out. Either by recruiting underdeveloped players from poverty programs in the state (Gary Pinkel at Mizzou used to do this) and developing them properly, or by taking talented two star high school QBs and converting them to defensive players at the college level.

I've been telling our fans this for a long time time. The staff has tried to recruit regionally (SEC), if not nationally and passed on most of the kids that the Sips got. The fan-base lost their collective minds.

You can recruit the top kids in TX and be fairly successful in the Big 12, because almost every team in that league does the same. OU has been recruiting TX and CA. That is why they are dominant in their league. A&M fans need to adjust to this mindset.
