Is it fair to say the East is equal to or weaker than the Big 12?

I think this is a fair question! If not, tell me why it's not...

How do you explain Mizzou performing as good if not better in the East than in the Big 12?

Mizzou was in the B12 North if I'm not mistaken, and that had one strong program, but that was BEFORE NU left for the B1G.

Not even the most deluded of SEC East fans doesn't admit that the East is down at the moment, and has been for a few years.

EDIT:

Having reviewed the history of the Big 12, saying that the North had one power program in that time frame was perhaps TOO GENEROUS. The 12 North was very arguably the weakest of any P5 division.

Big 12 has 3 more teams, so it's tough to fully measure, but I think the Big 12 is pretty clearly better than the East as of now.

Mizzou (probably 4th in East) will play WVU (probably 5th in Big 12) so that will give us a decent indication early in the season.

The SEC east is pretty bad right now. Really hard to sugar coat it.

Tennessee hasn't won the division since 2007 and is the favorite right now, even though they've only won 5 SEC games or more 1 time since then.

Georgia is in transition.

Florida has a walk-on transfer starting at QB, and a ton of questions all over the field after getting absolutely smashed at the end of last year.

Kentucky, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, and Missouri are all just hoping to be bowl eligible this year.

This may be the weakest the SEC east has ever been. Literally ever. Even last year as bad as the bottom half was, at least UT, UGA and UF all won 9 or more games and UF and UGA both won 10.

I doubt the division sees that many 9 win teams this season.

I actually don't think it would be shocking to see 3, because the rest of the East is so weak. Beat up on the other 4 East teams, win your 3 easy OOC games, and then you just need to win 2 out of the other 5 on the schedule.

Since you asked, well that was the last year the East arguably put up a decent fight in the Georgia Dome, however that alone does not prevent the division status from being "down".

Really you would need to go back to around 07 or about a decade to make a case for the division NOT being down.

But to your point about the Big 12, lets look at Mizzou's history relevant to the division that won it's conference in that span which really covers the years you were relevant in your own conference. Only OU and Texas won conference championships since they had divisions in the past decade. In fact in that time span your division has NOT won it's conference regardless of conference.

Mizzou in SEC

4 years, relevance low, East down.

Mizzou in B12

6 years, relevance low, North down

Total: 10 years, Mizzou's Div = 0 Conference Championship Wins

So to put it another way, Mizzou's success in it's conference has been EXTREMELY RELEVANT to being in the weakest half of the conference it has been in, try to spin it however you like but it won't change a thing.

Aggie actually won the "power division" one time, something Mizzou clearly could not have done.

When you type "and has been for a few years" ... might you elaborate?

"A few" would imply three (3) so are you saying The East has been down since 2013 or 2014? 2014 would imply that you are including this coming season before it's been played ... not saying I disagree with you, but it begs clarification on your part because, for some reason, it would appear you are claiming it to be for a longer period than just a few years.
