UGA fans have a weird complex of needing to be our #2 rival for some reason. It's quite odd.

I think message boards have a tendency to bring out some un-truths for many people. I think the VAST majority of SC fans in real life, without a message board e-agenda, would put us #2. I'm guessing some of the folks living in Augusta might even say 1B.

My theory is that SC is so down, so far down in the depths of the gutter, that the absolute very last resort they ahve when it comes to ANY kind of shite talk is to flippantly and casually say "psh. I mean, y'all aren't even like a big rival to us anyway. Yall really want us as rivals it's weird just leave us alone k?" It's kind of a weird strategy but honestly I just ignore it becuase it's more deflating than anything. There's a teeny, tiny shred inside me that kinda misses when SC did pose a bit of a threat and got the heart pumping a bit leading up to gameday.

It is currently a border war that could blossom into a full blown rivalry especially if UF can't get its act together. I was there in 2012 for No. 5 UGA vs. No. 6 USC when the Cocks put the serious beatdown on the Dogs. 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. UGA 7 (garbage time td) USC 35. Ace Sanders w/ the punt return for touchdown and Connor Shaw with two passing td's and a rushing td.

it's Tennessee and it's not close - Georgia was a complete shite-show when Carolina entered the SEC - Tennessee was not. Carolina & Georgia had also played regularly for the past few decades so it wasn't anything different for us to play UGA yearly.

Tennessee anointed themselves are #2 on our most hated in 1992 - with an unforgettable group of loud mouth loons who descended upon Columbia as though they invented football - and left with a loss and Johnny Majors soon without a job -

the Carolina-Tennessee series was filled with grueling moments and near misses for USC until Spurrier beat Fulmer in 2007 largely killing the UTK program and changing Gamecock fortunes in the series -

it's Tennessee -

Georgia is a long-standing border feud that comes and goes in a week each fall - we hate Tennessee 24/7/365 much like we hate the Upstate school 24/7/365.

I live in SC and I'd say UGA is second on who SC fans view as rivals.

Now some SC fans may say SC has only one rival (Clemson). That's fine. But I don't think any SC fans that says SC has more than one rival would put anyone other than UGA at #2.

UGA on the other hand has GT, Auburn and Florida ahead of SC. I'd put SC at 4th on our list, but other UGA fans might have more hate for Clemson or Tennessee.

Apparently there is one SC fan who thinks otherwise. He's in the minority of SC fans I know.

It is always geographic for Georgia fans (Columbus = Auburn, Valdosta = Florida, Augusta = Clemson or South Carolina, Dalton = Tennessee, Atlanta = GT).
Largest state east of the Mississippi. And College Football is regional.

I live in Tennessee, and there's some real hatred there.

I mean, yeah, I like to win that game, but a *lot* of UTK fans truly hate Beamer. Whereas the UGa series cooled after Spurrier retired, the UTK series has actually intensified since then(and it was already the closest series in the conference, accounting for margin of victory since 2000). The last two games have really sent it into a different space.

Most of my close UTK friends were openly pulling for UNC two weeks ago. Anecdote is anecdotal, but alas.

I mean, you're welcome to your theory. I'd say it's more indicative of football being cyclical. Uga/USC had a really competitive, hard-fought series from about 2000 to 2015-ish. Since then, as I've mentioned multiple times, USC fell off the cliff and UGa got significantly better.

The game just isn't as "big" as it used to be, for either side, as you yourself have admitted.

The Mizzou and UK series have been more interesting, and the UTK series has been infinitely more competitive during that same run. I personally hate aTm more, but I'm in the minority there, for sure. UF we just kinda play.

I imagine outside of clemson usce is in kinda a rival purgatory, you have uga who is geographically close and play every year but has been one sided talent wise. Unc close by, relatively similar talent wise in football and bad blood from acc days but is a basketball school plus infrequent meetings. Tenn is competitive the last decade talent wise and play every year but proximity isn't what unc and uga have. Kentucky talent wise comparative but is a bball and proximity is further than tenn. I'd go with uga as number 2 buy I'm guessing it varies amongst its fans.

Youre saying that UGA /USC was a better rivalry than UGA/Auburn or UGA/Florida for the 122 years from the first time UGA and USC played football until Muschamp showed up in 2016 and the Oldest Continuous Rivarly in the Deep South and the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party only became better games after 2016??

No one is saying it was better during the history of football, guy. I'm saying UGa/USC was better, as a series, from 2000-2015 than UGa/Auburn or UGa/UF during the same time period. I've continuously qualified the time period.

I couldn't give a shite less about games played in 1930, when we were in a different conference.

From 2000-2015 UGA is:

9-7 vs SC. 10 of the 16 games were by a TD or less. Yes, it was a competitive series during that time frame.

10-6 vs AU. 9 of the 16 games decided by a TD or less. About the same level of competition as SC.

5-11 vs UF. 9 of the 16 games decided by a TD or less. UGA lost more but the games had as many close calls as the other two series. About the same level of competition, but since UGA was on the losing side it makes the rivalry stronger for us than the other two.

UF and AU have more history and were very close to the same level of competitiveness as SC was over the time period you suggested. You can see why those are viewed as better rivalries even over that time.

NOt quite accurate. While our current 3rd string guy is a walk on, we're also missing a RB to injury who is on the way back Daijuan Edwards is expected to play this week against SC. So 3 injuries now.

We also have a guy who's a scholarship RB who's playing but not back to 100% who's currently behind the walk on but could surpass him later this season. Not really worried about RB, but the team overall is more pass oriented this year.

no we wouldnt...again you guys just want to think that because to you we arent rivals, and you want people to crave you as a rival.

You guys don't see us as "rivals" so we don't see you as rivals. We have real hate for UNC, and real hate for Clemson. we just don't like you
