Duke had multiple championship game appearances, multiple final fours, and plenty of conference championships before Coach K. Whoever called them a laughing stock is out of their mind

why wouldn't he be in the running for the best coach of all time? i don't think you need to limit it to football schools.

This catastrophe of a season really tarnishes his record but he's still pretty legit.

This season will be completely forgotten in a couple of years.

I know I'm biased, but don't think there is much question Donovan is at the top of the list. What he has built at UF was almost unimaginable 20 years ago.

I think Bliss should get the credit at OU he is the one that built the monster Tubbs just fed it.

I still think if Bliss doesn't get Tisdale there's no huge OU run.

But as well as Bliss did, Olson is still the obvious answer after thinking about.

"god awful" was the wrong expression. They only had 7 tournament appearances in a 25 year span before Coach K was hired. Once K arrived, they began to be a perennial tourney team/finals favorite.

Valid point. I will admit, I didn't do much research. ESPN was my source and it only listed tournament appearances/results of said appearances.

He's real good. Another guy in the conversation:

Doing what he's done where he's done it is pretty impressive as well. His highs aren't as high, but bringing people to Indiana isn't exactly like bringing people to Florida.

Indiana is clearly a basketball school.

No points awarded for you.

I accidentally got a picture of Crean, and intended to get one of Brey. I edited, but I imagine you didn't see it.

ETA: If you say ND is a basketball school someone should hit you in the face with a baseball bat.

Digger was a better coach than Brey. He also played generally a more national schedule.

Absolutely not and he coached in a diluted college game. Brey doing what he's done with what he's had is more impressive than anything Digger did three decades ago.

Thad Matta has a case. If OSU wins tonight he will tie Fred Taylor with most coaching wins at OSU (297 in 11 seasons). He has never won less than 20 games in all of his years as a coach at Butler, Xavier and OSU. Although he doesn't have any national titles, he has made it to the championship game, another Final Four, an elite 8 and 2 sweet 16s.

One thing about Billy Donovan is that he only seems to be really successful with veteran teams. His young teams seem to struggle some. Not sure what that means, but it's just an observation.

Lute Olsen at UArizona hands down. Arizona wasn't a basketball school till he showed up (I think 3 previous tourney appearances) and he ended up with a championship, making some 25+ straight tournaments, ungodly amount of sweet 16s, PAC12 titles and 20+ win seasons.

Arizona is considered a premier bball school after being a cellar dweller and having no in state talent due to Lute Olsen
