This can't be a serious question...

How do you not know what the term sleeper refers to when used for athletic purposes right?

So why can't you understand why people are still skeptical of Oregon??

I absolutely understand why people are skeptical of Oregon. The other half of that coin is people being skeptical of Alabama, as they both have not been tested nearly as much as one would like in order to make a sound judgement. Anytime anyone expresses skepticism of Alabama they are voraciously attacked by rabid gumps demanding respect for the Tide.

I think Delta is dead on , the media assume since Bama gave up 600 plus yards to a “ spread ” team that any spread team with a decent defense can beat Bama.

The problem with this theory is JFF scrambles , there will be no 97 degree heat and Bama's young players will have 13 games under their belt by then.

I think if Oregon played Alabama this week Oregon would win convincingly. I also think if Alabama plays Oregon in the national title Alabama would win convincingly. Saban is no chump, he sculpts his team to his bowl opponent better than anyone, even if that means making the defense drop 20-50 lbs of weight to keep up with a spread/tempo offense like Oregon has.

This is also why I think the play off era will lead to destruction of SEC hegemony. you can redo your team in a month, you can't in a week.

Alabama has been more tested than Oregon.

Wrong. I'm a gump and haven't attacked anybody. I did just read a thread where another Oregon poster was dumping on everything Alabama had done and what LSU/Auburn had did to Oregon though.

Based on what? The trashing of all those doormat teams?

You've beaten ONE... ONE team with a winning record and that team isn't even a good one.

based on Oregon having a fastpaced explosive offense like A&M and a far better defense.

also, I'm not an Oregon fan.

The media, if " Sleeping" on us, maybe due to a lot of our skill players not playing like they should be and have been.
Fumbles inside the 10, missed Assignments, stupid mistakes, is taking the attention on that, then even mentioning ( a lot of media) what we do even in winning the game.

Saban, is trying out the new guys, many are better then expected, and we are getting the thick of the schedule, it will all jell together from here on out....hopefully..

Which means what when they've had that every year and either lost to a conference foe or got beat by an SEC one?

Oh, and pare me the "better defense" bit. How much better?

They held Nicholls State to 3 points. Every team beside Washington so far that they've faced is the bottom dweller in another conference. Wow! They held other conferences worst teams to low points! Their defense must be superb!

Then gave up 24 points to the first decent competition they faced, who by the way were still worn down from the game the week before.

In 2011 Oregon held California to less points. Held Colorado to less (2) points and dominated their weak OOC teams JUST the same as this year...............

one difference...

LSU beat that arse so the hype train never got to leave the station.

It doesn't matter how good every championship Bama squad has been in the last 20 ish years - they've always had sluggish or close games.

'92 team only beat an unranked So. Miss by 1 TD (17-10). An unranked La Tech by a TD and two field goals (13-0). They also almost let MS state come back and win the game (30-21). I believe it was a blocked MSU field goal that finally put the game away.

'09 squad almost lost to unranked TN (12-10) and also had to come from behind to beat an unranked Auburn (26-21)

'11 squad lost to LSU in overtime and didn't get to play in the SECCG.

'12 squad lost to TAM.

This year really isn't any different so far. They had a sluggish game against an inferior Co state and overall have had some flashes of vulnerabilities (TAM) mixed with some flashes of greatness.

It's nothing new, really - but I wouldn't say that the media is sleeping on them.

I think that's more of a commonality among all championship teams more than just Bama championship teams.

Just the way it is. Not many teams go out and dominate every opponent start to finish for the whole season.
