True but against Iona's lack of size and depth, he should be attacking the rim in the paint.
If nothing else but drawing fouls.

Portis is the one that drives me crazy.
Biggest man on the court and he wants to stand back and shoot baseline jumpers.
Get in the paint and dominate!
Doing so will cost him millions of dollars.
He is doing what his NBA game will be, and why he is a valuable commodity; hoisting 13-17 foot jump shots, with periodic 3 point range.
He will never play with his back to the basket as a pro; the only way he is in the paint as a pro, is in transition.
I don't know why so many Hog fans don't understand this.

Portis has made me shake my head some tonight for sure.

Because if he can't manage a inside game against a team this undersized he is gonna have trouble.
IONA is running a 4 guard set with one 6'9" forward. Bobby should be salivating at getting the ball in the paint.

He will never be paid to play inside. Ever.
It is like complaining about Dwight Howard or Roy Hibbert lacking a crossover dribble. That has nothing to do with their games. There is little to no benefit to them, to bother trying.

So we really don't care about what we need to win...just work on our pro game?

NBA level stretch big men are more than capable of pushing in the shite of a hyaically inferior players. Joe Johnson was a center in high school at central and u could not do shite with him in the paint. Portia is good but is a year away

We should be running them out of the gym.

Bobby is going to do what is best for Bobby Portis.
And yes, his end goal is the NBA; our end goal, is to use his NBA quality skills to win games and attract more highly talented players to the program.
We're both getting something from the exchange.

So we're just here to get ready for the NBA and these games don't matter? Cool

Exactly.
Portis is 4-11 for 8 point whereas IONA big man is 8-14 for 20 points.
He has got to be able to recognize when he needs to get down low.
Once he goes pro he can stand outside all day long. Right now we need a presence in the paint.

Welcome to the compromise made w/ the NBA to save college basketball a decade ago.
