Came about because of the rule change in 2008. Saban has used it at times before, but not much. Use it at certain points in the game to discombobulate the defense and the officials, he'll use it more this year. Use it too much and your defense is toast.

I'm getting sick of Saban's whining. He needs to man up, and cool down on the diatribes.

The man's a baby, it's becoming more and more evident with every quote.

What exactly in any of the OP's post did you consider whining?

What you are really upset about is Saban making UT his bitch for 7 straight years.

You got to be smart with it to avoid gassing your own defense though. You'll see teams like Auburn slow down dramatically when they start struggling, partly to help gather themselves but also to give their defense a rest.

And lose large leads like in the UGA and FSU games. Malzahn screwed himself out of title with that hurry up shite.

Won3ofTheLast5....you probably missed this question so I'll repost.

Here's what you said:
quote:

So, to fix this, the officials need to go at the same methodical pace for whatever type of offense is on the field

Let's get you on the record. If Alabama is down by 4 with no TO's and 1 minute left in the game, you want the officials to go at the same methodical pace as they did at the beginning of the game?

I've said except in the last 2 minutes of each half, like it is in the NFL. Just like the clock rules are different now in college football in the last 2 minutes of the 1st & 2nd half.

So Saben is a fighter for player safety. All the bammers jump on the bandwagon.

No, it's not really player safety - it's ummm balance and fairness. All the bammers jump on that bandwagon and forget about safety.

No, now it's really about refs and giving them a break. All the bammers are huffing and puffing to catch up with this idea and defend it to the death.

So, now. Seems the coach was just kidding about all those things. Now saben himself is going to speed it up, and player safety and balance and refs just aren't important.

AND the bammers are just having to make a U-turn and working so hard to defend their coach who is always right.

He's making a fool of his fans, and no one sees it - except everyone else in the country.

Apparently you don't understand what Saban is saying, and HAS been saying for several years. Relatively few teams are using the HUNH offense to keep the defense from substituting, at this time. If because of the 2008 rule changes giving offenses the advantage, it forces other, more powerful teams to use those same tactics, then you will see an explosion in injuries. Not to mention, a continuous game. Do people really want to see a bunch of 68-54 type of games where defensive coaching strategy is taken out of the game?

bs

only if the majority of teams go to HUNH, which I seriously doubt happens.

Oh, so you want it to be the same methodical pace until you don't want it to be the same methodical pace. It's not OK to play the 1st 2 minutes of each half at the same pace as the last 2 minutes of the half. What a massive fail on your part

BTW, the topic YOU raised is the pace of the game, not clock rules so try to avoid building straw men to support your claim.

But that will change this spring. AJ McCarron is gone from under center. Kevin Norwood and Kenny Bell are no longer out wide at receiver. The conservative tendencies of Doug Nussmeier and Jim McElwain before him have been replaced by the more forward-thinking Kiffin.

Weren't Alabama fans unhappy with Nuss.. because he didn't run the ball enough? He passed too much.

Apparently, you're not familiar with the clock rule changes in 2008 that changed the culture of offensive philosophy not allowing defensive substitutions. Educate yourself, and get back with me.

Now, let's all take a minute and point out the HUNH teams from the list.

Saban runs the ball so slow that "speeding it up" is a pretty large range, so they could "up the tempo" and not be anywhere near the pace the Oregons and Auburns of the world are going.

I can see the suggested humor given the context though. Still, a pretty crappy thread.
