Gerhart had 285 more yards than Ingram on 90 more carries.

Ingram: 6.46 yards per carry against teams that allow an average of 4.1 per carry

Gerhart: 5.58 yards per carry against teams that allow an average of 4.28 per carry

Receiving:
Ingram 322yds receiving, for 3 tds.
Gerhart 149yds receiving, for 0 tds.

Also Ingram did not play but 18 plays in the 2nd and 3rd games of the year which is easily 2 of Bama's easiest games.. Add 25 carries which is what he might have had if he had played in both those game as he did the others and times that by 6.4 and he should have had another 160 yards.. So they are pretty close but Ingram is more dominate against better defenses and with less carries..

Not to mention all the yards Ingram has after contact.

That's really not the whole picture. If Gerhart plays for Texas instead of Stanford he wins imo. Not enough hype at the beginning of the season for your team usually = no true shot at the Heisman. In no way saying Ingram isn't deserving of a shot btw.

Gerhart is good. But he plays Pac-10 defenses. Ingram has comparable numbers but has played against much tougher defenses. He put up big numbers against the number 1 defense.

I think you need to take a look at the level of competition that play against as well

But I think the run defenses in the Pac 10 are overrated, relative to what the rankings suggest. The ball is being thrown all over the lot, so I would assume the rankings of the run defenses would be up. This seems to be the argument for Gerhart. Suggesting he's ran over top 20 type run defenses. Sure, he's awesome, but are his stats that much more impressive than Ingram's if this is considered, in addition to those statistics above.

I disagree that if Gerhart played for Texas he would win it. If he played for Texas, he wouldn't have nearly the kind of stats he does now. He wouldn't have as many attempts and carries as he does playing along side Colt McCoy. I think if you put Gerhart in the SEC against the SEC defenses, he wouldn't have nearly the production he does. If you put Ingram against Pac 10 defenses, his numbers would even be better. Its all subjective like that. However, what you can't argue is that Ingram picks up an additional 1.5 yards a carry more than Gerhart does and Ingram does it in the SEC.

enjoy the Northwestern game and all the "momentum" the booger eaters gained from hanging with bama. I'm sure the instate recruits are really focusing on moral victories this week.

Gerhart is also the ONLY REAL option on his team and teams lined up to stop him... Ingram had the luxury of having one of the nations best wideouts that defenses had to plan against as well. Also, do you really think there would have been THAT BIG a drop off if say Richardson would have been in Ingram's place this year...I dont.
