does not happen. DOES Auburn play Notre Dame for the NC in the sugar Bowl that year?

Auburn's defense was #1 nationally that year. Notre Dame was already given a win that year vs Miami. Auburn might beat ND in a 17-13 type game.

Well, obviously, they were our only loss before the Sugar Bowl against FSU, and we were ranked 4th going into the game. Not like West Virginia would have jumped us with their crappy independent schedule.

No doubt. Auburn has got the short end of the stick on a few occasions, but in '88 it was on us.

I agree it was not a miracle, Hodson was on the money near all the game and the receivers were dropping balls right and left.

Fuller had 4 or 5 drops before he caught the ball on the end line and then the winning td.

LSU's te's also had a number of drops until the winning drive.

Only Tony Moss was catching passes from Hodson.

Now for the other side of the ball, LSU's defense in 88 was good, not great; Auburn's offense was nothing to write home about.

You could not beat FSU! So what makes you think you could have beaten the Domers?

I would love to agree with this, but have you looked at BYU's schedule the year they won the NC in '84? Plus, Auburn has had some shite luck regarded their NC chances.

It was quite a miracle. Not only was Auburn one of the best teams in the country with the finest defense in the land, LSU was reeling after the shocker at Ohio State and then an ugly loss at Florida. In short, the Tigers were becoming irrelevant prior to the miraculous DRIVE.

Also noteworthy is the fact this remains one of only a handful of purple jersey Tiger victories over ranked opponents. None were more impressive than this one.

Naw.

Hodson was an All-SEC QB in '86,'87,'88, and '89.
Him completing an 11-yd TD pass does NOT a miracle make.

Flynn's pass with time about expiring is a better qualifier, but still not a miracle.
