According to a 2 page article in the Morning Advocate today, the head football coach is quoted as saying it costs a student/player $7,200 to attend the academy for a year. Some players are quoted as saying they got scholarships. From all accounts in the article it is legal per the NCAA & the Florida High School Association. My question is do the Catholic/private schools in La. and other states provide a scholarship to attend?

There are a number of private schools that offer scholarships to kids who are deserving. Not all are sports related. This is nothing new.

I don't think fhsaa is kosher with athletic scholarships. The kids are likely too poor and undereducated to understand it is a needs based scholarship.

I am sure most private HS programs offer "scholarships" to attend their school.

62,000 a year to attend IMG.

62,500 for grades 1 - 5
67,500 for grades 6 - 8
68,500 for grades 9 - 12

Food upgrade = 4,350 per year
Insurance (mandatory) = 1,900 per year

Actual cost of school is closer to 75K per year

That is Ivy League tuition levels.

12,000 students x 65K per year = 780 million in tuition!
IMG numbers = 95% acceptance rate / only 4% get financial aid
AVG boarding schools = 55% acceptance rate / 35% get financial aid

CheeseGrits, thanks for the figures. I thought I had read $75K but it just sounded like it was too much. According to the article, the money behind the academy is the sports mgt agency which represents numerous pro athletes. The perception is that this is a way to get an early foot in the door for those potential pro athletes who will be needing representation down the road.

The reality may be more they are raping them at 75K per year the first time, then directing them to IMG colleges like Texas, and raping them a 2nd time by being their agent upon graduation.
