TN would win the national championship with ease. Total dominance over any team they faced (Bama included).

But as it stands, 2016 TN simply shows up for the 4th quarter. TN fans will look back on the 2016 season and realize it was a season of missed opportunities. The 2016 team was best setup to win a championship and the coaches and players will regret they didn't give their max effort every minute of every game.

Yesterday was not a question of effort for 4 quarters. We had a season worth of fumbles in 1 game.

We have to learn not to shoot ourselves in the foot. It caught up with us yesterday.

First 5 games: 15 fumbles, 3 lost.

October 8th: 6 fumbles, 5 lost.

On the year, 21 fumbles, 8 lost.

38% lost fumbles out of total fumbles is normal.

They're a good team with the ingredients to be great. You just can't live on the edge that many times and not get burned.

All trolling aside, it's easy to see why they were so highly thought of as a CFB contender.

Effort was amazing. Execution was abysmal.

We shouldn't be fumbling that much in the first place.

If UT had a good coach they would meet every preseason expectations.

VolShaft,

I disagree. This TN team has had 4th Q miracles more than once this season, hence why Verne referred to Butch having Pixie Dust Luck.

The luck simply wore out yesterday. There's only so much luck one can have when you finally decide to start playing in the 4th Q of every game.

Yesterday's game wasn't about bad luck. Yesterday's game was about lack of preparation and execution...and the coaches are responsible for that.

I agree. I genuinely can't stand Butch, but he's better than Dooley so I can't be too mad.

Everyone agrees that UT has the talent but Butch has looked lost in all these games. UT right now is winning purely on the talent on the field making plays not from the play calling.

It is like he has no idea what he is suppose to be doing but praying the team pulls out the win. I think it is only time before he gets exposed and with key players going out with injury may be sooner then later.

People keep saying Vols are lucky but we are just as unlucky to lose so many star players on defense.
We beat A&M yesterday with Sutton, Kirkland, and Reeves-Maybin....even with the 7 turnovers.

I was really impressed with the defense. A&M started calling a conservative game. I don't think they wanted Trevor to get hurt in the running game with the lead, but they couldn't get their running backs to the edges and UT blew up the middle.

Imagine if they had more chicken's bloods and frog eyes. The voodoo wouldn't have worn off, and they'd be undefeated.

Tennessee's inability to show up ready to play a single time this year is squarely on the coaches.

Tennessee has been incredibly unlucky this year though, arguably 4 of our top 7 players were out yesterday.

Maybe, maybe not. But let's not act like A&M was at full-strength either. It's football. There are injuries. That's why a season is a measure of your team, not your starters.

Mizzoukills has mastered the art of the subtle-but-not-really-subtle troll

"Your team is awesome and maybe the greatest of all time but you'll likely look back and be gravely depressed about it.... discuss"

In all seriousness, I like Kelly and Kamara over Hurd moving forward. Kamara either is a monster or A&M is the worst tackling team in division 1 football. I think it's probably more that Kamara is a really good back.

Ok now. (Disclaimer: I don't think Butch is that great of a coach, and he infuriates me sometimes.)

Reasonable preseason expectations were this: beat UF, win 10 games, and win the East. The first is already accomplished, and the odds are strongly in favor of the other two happening as well. The narrative that because we lost one game on the road in 2OT, we fail to meet expectations, is getting old. In fact, we were expected to LOSE this game by most people.

Imagine what would happen if UT played the whole game like they did the first half.
