That's just for those who feel insecure about the differences in the success of the football programs.

No, it's because most of Alabama--while not having actually attended an institution of higher education--have glommed onto the Tide & treat it as "their" team. Kinda like an NFL fan would do. But obviously that's not an option in Alabama.

It gives them a sense of importance and a feeling of being a part of something bigger, beyond their impoverished lives. And it makes complete sense; it just stinks for the few of you who actually attended the university.

If UA can provide a little bit of optimism, a little bit of hope, for these poor poor impoverished folk of Alabama than I give that a big ole fat Roll Tide.

Wow, that is the first time a jealous fan from another sidewalk has stated it that way. Good work.

Yawn... this delusional myth gets debunked every time it's posted on here.

Like the AU fan who called his ex from prison to wish her a War Eagle after the Iron Bowl. Or the AU fan who went Grand Theft Auto in BR. Or the AU fan in Tenn. who attempted to rob a bank with a post it note. Or sporting an AU hat at a Klan gathering in Oxford. Or the oxy'd out crackwhore who tried to rob a gas station without a weapon. Or the guy who was tazed by Walmart rent a cops. Etc. Etc. Etc.

C'mon, there's nothing wrong with admitting you have awesome fans too. Why is it so difficult?

I think Alabama is a great institution; but trust me, I'm not jealous of your university (though I think you may mean envious [which I'm not either]). Wouldn't mind having that football pedigree, though!

There've been many threads about this topic since we joined the SEC, and I'll just repeat what I always say: The idea of being such a die-hard fan of a school you didn't attend is a very foreign concept to many of us in Texas. I'm not talking about those special situations, where someone started school & had to drop out; went into the military; or has a son/daughter/spouse who attended the school--those make sense to me.

I'm talking about random, Joe Public , who just walks up the street one day and decides he'll be a Bama fan. I just can't wrap my brain around it.

Anyway, that's the group about whom we're talking here--I wasn't trying to insult Bama grads. On the contrary, I think it's unfortunate that y'all are saddled to the less than savory types.

Really? I've yet to meet an Aggie or Longhorn who attended school there. Baylor is the only school in Texas in which I've yet to meet a sidewalker.

Not to mention Texas is one of the largest states in America and you're implying the top two college football programs doesn't really have a strong sidewalk following? Most of us on this forum are dumb and gullible, but clearly not to the extent you think it is.

Yea I laughed at that. I know a lot of people from Texas and do business with their Austin and Houston office within my company. I know a ton of sidewalkers in Texas.

Nah Texas doesn't have a single bandwagoner or sidewalker in the entire state. They all speak English and graduate from high school too.

I didn't say Texas doesn't have a single Tshirt fan.
But it's not in the same universe as what Alabama has.
Most of our folks with that mentality become the diehard Texans and Cowboys fans who paint their faces like KISS and wear red and blue (or blue & silver) headdresses and leather costumes--you know, the ones you see screaming at the cameras on Sunday afternoons , looking like they're about to drop from an aneurysm.

He looks familiar.
Think he sat next to me in organic chem.
Again, I didn't say we don't have any; I said we have exponentially fewer.
We do.
It's not an insult.

When you find a way to put a number on the amount of sidewalkers/Bandwagoners per state, maybe you will have some credibility in this argument.

Till than, enjoy your view from your ivory tower.

Fair enough.
That's not a longitudinal study I choose to conduct (and can't imagine would ever be funded)!
My data is entirely observational--I fully admit it.
Peace.
