There are practical reasons to pull for teams in your conference. If the perception is that the SEC is superior to other conferences then SEC teams will benefit. That is exactly what happened this year. And it makes logical sense since the SEC has won 6 of the 9 national championships in the Playoff Era. That logic is likely to be even more pertinent in the coming 12 Team Playoff. But as I would expect hatred is a more powerful motivator for some than rational self interest. Particularly when that self interest may take years to manifest. Unfortunately for Auburn the period of SEC dominance was at its beginning in 2004.

I’m with you but not because of some misguided allegiance to Bama. I’m older and tend to root for the “South” to put it to “North” whenever the opportunity arises.

It’s primarily due to an unjustified sense of northern superiority. Go listen to the song “Rednecks” by Randy Newman and you’ll get a strong sense of it. You’ve got to listen to the whole song and be prepared to have your sensibilities offended.

Nice first post.

I'm assuming you're either going to be:

1) a legitimate poster;
2) cloyingly good until you reverse course and reveal your true self;
3) an ai bot

Either way, welcome.

Your first post is that bullshite

No one loss SEC team besides Alabama or maybe UGA would jump undefeated Florida St for the last playoff spot in the situation that happened.

The only thing more paradoxical than rooting for your rivals to win for pretty much no reason is peddling for your arrivals to actually root for you for no reason.

I do not give a frick about the SEC. I'll cheer for some of the teams I do not mind too much, but there is no way that I am going to cheer for Alabama to win in the playoffs.

Michigan is the lesser of two evils, so I will reluctantly cheer for the Wolverines.

I don't care if you believe me, but I never pull for the Big.

This is a good take. Your greatest competition for talent, wins & championships come from within the SEC.

I've wanted Alabama to beat somebody like LSU in the past if it put us in the SECCG.If somebody like South Carolina was playing a Big10 team I'd cheer for them.

Alabama winning a playoff game and possibly another NC does nothing for the benefit of Auburn. Other than more conference $ possibly.

Screw that noise. Big 10 and PAC 12 suck and they’re doing just fine. Jordan Travis being injured benefitted Bama more than being a part of the SEC this year. Any SEC fan who cheers for a team they hate because they feel a need to prove themselves against other conferences are the same dudes who brag about how ripped the guy is who took their wife out and boned her while they stayed home baking cookies.

This year I would be pulling for LSU (or any team) against Micheatigan.

Other years I would just hope for an entertaining game.

perception doesn't mean shite compared to wins and losses, typically.

what happened this year is FSU's star QB got injured. Nothing more.

I assure you nobody on the committee said "hey bama won the national title in 2015, we shoudl give them the benefit of the doubt this year"

Yes, we should be pulling for the team that has dominated the conference and college football bc it’s good for us to see our in conference rivals telling the blue chip recruits we want that they continuously are winning championships.

Do you know how fricking stupid this is? Go Washington and Go Michigan

I’m not rooting for anyone

But why should I hate the big 10? They produce some pretty good football teams and players

Probably second behind the SEC

SEC homerism is weird. I don’t give a frick about y’all
