If you’re a voting SEC member, what is your reasoning to add FSU/Clem vs UNC/UVA?

Say you are Bama or Georgia. How does adding FSU/Clem positively impact you and how does it negatively impact you? Alternatively, how does adding UNC/UVA positively and negatively impact you?

You can do this for every school. You don’t even have to do UF and SC which we know are against adding them.

It’s really eye opening when you realize how unlikely it is that FSU/Clem will ever be in the SEC.

FSU/Clemson — If I’m Bama or UGA - I want them to stay in the ACC

If I’m a weaker school, I want them in to pull recruits from the Bamas and Georgias & even out the talent to give my school a better shot

UNC/UVA?

I want them in 1st if we have to expand

Let Clem’s son and Free Shoes go to the Big “little brother” 12

UVA fashions themselves as an Ivy League school. Do not want. They bring nothing.

You can even say this for teams that are geographically west of Alabama too. Right?

LSU, ou, Tex want Clem and fsu to pull some Atlanta recruits their way as well.

FSU and Clemson make perfect sense considering their main rivals are already in conference. Allows us to maintain those rivalries, and would free up an OOC slot for them to schedule other teams

UNC and UVA I couldn't give a shite less. Completely interchangeable with other ACC teams IMO as far as positive impact

Clemson fans are the worst. Yall don't want them anywhere near the SEC. Their fake religious/family culture is unbearable.

I actually use to work with a Clemson booster who was one of my patients. Really nice lady. They even invited us to tailgate with them at the 2015 and 2016 NC games.

Had a blast with their group both times

I'd argue all fanbases have their fair share of shitty fans

Except Miami. Just a barrel full of bad apples that bunch is

Unless ESPN is compensating us for the addition, then expansion can frick off

Have you ever heard of a school called Auburn University?

If you’re a university president, I don’t see how you could pass on UNC/UVA if that option is available. They would dramatically improve the academic perception of the conference overnight, and that very much still matters. I don’t think FSU and Clemson improve the football quality enough to overwhelm that impact. Both UNC and UVA have better athletic programs, including at least equal in football, compared to many current SEC programs.

It might be as much about denying the B1G resources as it is the SEC gaining resources. FSU and Clemson would make the B1G better at football and give them blueprints in some untapped markets. The B1G already has schools like UVA and UNC, they don't add as much as they theoretically would to the SEC like you pointed out.

Realignment is focused on football and I think you have to keep that mindset, but I think you add both pairs of teams if you can. Though if I had to pick, give me FSU/Clemson.

I'd take Miami over Clemson. Really don't want the B1G in Florida at all

Agreed. We've already got one SEC member school that covers the self-righteous, religious, "Family" vibe and that's enough.

I'm voting them both in to piss off Florida and South Carolina. Mostly South Carolina.

FSU and Clemson are tough because the SEC already has established programs in those states. FSU is a massive brand in a huge state, so they make a lot of sense to me but Clemson feels like diminishing returns in spite of their recent success. If Clemson doesn't join the Big Ten (I really don't believe they're a legitimate candidate), are we pretending that they'll have the same level of program interest and longevity playing road games against Utah and Colorado as opposed to Florida State and Georgia Tech? I just don't see it.

Virginia Tech over UVA is a no brainer to me. If UVA goes to the Big Ten and VaTech goes to the SEC, the divide in popularity between the two programs will just continue to grow.

North Carolina is trickier. I'd prefer the Wolfpack, but they're not as big a get as UNC and they already have a smaller footprint/fanbase. If the SEC can get UNC, NC State has no chance of joining the Big Ten and you more or less just guarantee them becoming even more of an afterthought.

Yes, but research dollars are also huge as are enrollment stats. If you’re an SEC president and think you could move toward AAU status, attract more out of state applications, etc., you have to weigh that against a marginal improvement in the football product.

UNc and UVA would give UK two rivals so of course we'd prefer adding them.

Having grown up in VA, I don’t agree with this at all. UVA is a substantially better overall package. VT is not well positioned in football long term, and UVA is literally better at everything else. Their fans are snobs but that’s not exactly a needle-moving issue in the decision process for university presidents.

Pretty simple. Flarda State and Clemson are more Southern and Southeastern than UNC and UVA.

There's something about schools that use orange that attracts this sort of bullshite.
