We'd combine our math, science, law and business and, more importantly, our refined ways in corruption and sneakiness and rule the world IMHO.

We'd combine Alabama and Auburn and beat the frick out of all of you even more in footbaw and be pretty damned formidable in academics.

We'd have UF, FSU, Miami, USF, UCF...I think you'd find yourself challenged in football.

And you'd still be stuck with Alabama academics.

Having one university for a state of over 27 M is ridiculous. That said A&M and tu are the only possible choices. The problem with tu is they cannot expand enough. A&M has and is in the middle of huge growth. Our campus could double in size because there is real-estate to grow. tu, on the other hand, couldn't properly launch a new campus in Houston. They ended up wasting hundreds of millions of dollars buying a toxic, flooding dump.

As for athletic departments, A&M has a lead currently and has for what seems like almost a decade now.

But really this is just another offseason troll thread.

Mother of God. The amount of headassery and pure athletic ability on that team would make Howard Schnellenberger and Jimmy Johnson nut so hard they would be put into ICU.

If states were really forced to keep only one school open, it would probably go to the land grants like UK, UT, MSU, UF, AU, A&M etc.

I think we'd do just fine.

You should take a look at the specific programs at Alabama and Auburn. There would be a Top 5-50 program in basically every area of study.

Really the thing that would benefit most from this idea would be Ole Miss football. The state would stop cannibalizing itself by splitting instate football recruits and they'd probably immediately be able to compete with Bama, Georgia, LSU etc from a talent standpoint.

I believe we have enough medieval basket weavers/turf grass managers to work with, no need for more.

In Louisiana, the obvious right choice would be LSU, so I'm pretty sure the powers that be would keep Grambling.

Miami over both. Better academically, sports are solid, and in a city with plenty to do.

That would be like suggesting La Tech in Louisiana.
Small rich kid only private school. The U is a joke and only famous for 1980s thug football.

Isn't the premise of this public universities? If the state cut down to one public university and dedicated all its support to that one school?

University of Miami is a private university, so doesn't count. Florida over FSU.

eta - Vanderbilt is private as well. So University of Tennessee stays.
