That may be.
Louisiana and Mississippi may be pretty arse backwards relative to the rest of America but I'd still rather live in those two states over anywhere in Africa.
I know how to navigate around the neighborhoods in America I want to avoid.
I don't want to know a damn thing about what to avoid in Africa.

I couldn't imagine living in Goodland or Dodge City, KS, but I recently relocated to a suburb of KC, on the Kansas side, and my only real complaint about it is that it's not Southern. If you want a Coke, you have to order a "soda." Weird. People here plan stuff for Saturdays in September, October, November and December. That's weird too. It's as though they think a kid's soccer game, or a dance recital, or a wedding are as important as marathon watching College Football every Saturday. That was a big adjustment when they expected me to be other places on a Saturday in the fall besides the stadium or my couch.
Aside from its non-Southernness, I have to say my family and I have enjoyed the schools, our neighborhood, the restaurants (though they think they know BBQ...ha!), and the overall quality of life. Can't compare it to Ghana since I haven't traveled to Ghana, but Kansas isn't such a bad place.

I like trees.
I'm pretty sure moving from a place with as many trees as Atlanta to a treeless field of grass like Kansas might make me have a seizure.

This part of the state - extreme eastern KS has trees and some hills too. Drive an hour west on I-70 and it starts to turn into the endless prairie, but over here close to the Ozarks, it's fairly scenic.

I don't believe electricity has reached Kansas as of yet and I think rogue bikers with assless chaps ride the highways shooting arrows into you and your car for your gasoline as well.

Several of us run extension cords up from OK and AR. They recently started making full-coverage chaps in these parts, and gasoline is abundant and cheap. It's really starting to resemble Iowa.
