They do have Bama and TAMU cross-division. Their inter-division could trip them up even if they do well intra-division. Lucky for them, the Bama game is on Injury Slip-n-Slide Field this year.

Edit: Looking at their schedule, they're pulling a UF this season. Only leave the state three times all season long.

You are insane if you think barring any major negative news in the sexual assault investigation that Butch is going anywhere after this season.

It would literally take a 4-8 year IMO for him to get fired for only on the field problems.

The 5 years before Butch was our coach we won 26 games.

In his 3 years we have won 21, he has us ready to compete again and that is all TN fans are asking for at this point.

If in 3 years we haven't done anything but go 8-4 or 9-3 each year then yes he will be on the hot seat but not this season.

Amazing how many people confuse If and When, as in;

When Tennessee doesn't win the SEC East this year, not If.

Next year Tennessee will lose both Dobbs and Hurd, along with key players on defense, and the schedule will obviously be tougher with trips to both Gainesville and Tuscaloosa.

We lose Dobbs but we gain a Dobbs clone in Jarrett Guarantano who is basically Dobbs version 2.0. He's expected to surpass Dormady this year and he's not been on campus that long. He can run as well as Dobbs and has a stronger arm. He'll start next season as Redshirt, imo.

We also likely lose both Hurd and Kamara - that's where things will hurt the most. We've got two good potentials but they ain't Hurd or Kamara.

On defense we'll be fine even though the losses will hurt we're fairly stacked at those positions. Offense is where we may take a step back.

If they don't win the East its down. If they win the East its the greatest division ever.

This is how this works

It isn't complex. UGA, Missouri, and South Carolina have new coaching staffs. McElwain is in only his 2nd season at UF and has a new QB. Then you have Vanderbilt and Kentucky.

If Tennessee can't win the East division this year, Jones probably never will.

He could go 10-2, beat Bama and UF, and not win the east and be perfectly fine.

good luck

Odds are that Tennessee won't win the east this year.

You could be right but why are you so certain we won't?

"If Tennessee doesn't win it all in 97' with Peyton in his SR year then they won't ever win it."

Oh, what's that? Some dude named Tee Martin is taking them to the national championship? Impossible, you just told me that if they didn't win it all in 97' then they never would.

What a dumb arse thread.

You have no idea what will and won't happen going forward, OP.
Thanks for your interest in the our program though.

Just because everyone is picking them to win. When everyone expects one team to win the division, it seems like they don't.

A bit off topic, but searching for the record of SEC teams in Nick Saban's UA tenure, and I discovered that during that time, Tennessee trails Alabama, LSU, Georgia, Florida, Missouri, Auburn, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Mississippi State, Arkansas, and Ole Miss and has won more games than only Vanderbilt and Kentucky. I didn't realize it was that bad. ......... LINK

Exactly why any TN fan who wants to get mad over a 9-3 or 10-2 season this year that doesn't result in an SEC East title should pick a new team.

We have come a very long way and I for one am going to enjoy being competitive year in and year out again and being in the thick of the SEC Championship race, even if we don't win it this year.

I do think we have a great shot, but with Butch Jones' leadership we will continue to have a great shot for years to come and will put it all together one year.

While I agree with this in an average year, I think when you look at our team, and the rest of the East there are very few reasons we shouldn't win the East. Every other team in the division has massive question marks in terms of coaching, QBs, etc...

There will always be anomalies and variations once the season starts so things can always change. But as of now the expectation is to win the SEC East at a bare minimum.

If you think winning the East is a bare minimum, what do you think is a realistic and reasonable expectation?

seems to me you came out on fire vs Arkansas but couldn't keep it up
