When he was on the Auburn list last year everyone was mixed on him. Has a good resume, seems like it'd be a solid upgrade for most SEC teams, no?

Certainly an upgrade for 75% of the conference, no question.

Not trying to knock the guy. Just saying, don't expect him to make State some year-in-and-year-out contender.

Yeah, I'm done conversing with you if that's part of your argument. This has nothing to do with sanctioned or non sanctioned records, we're talking coaching, on court results

He still got the teams there.

So he's gotten his teams to five Final Fours. Donovan has gotten his teams to four Final Fours, in less time.

I would probably take Cal over Donovan, especially given the current landscape of college basketball. However, to ask as if someone is crazy for taking one over the other is silly.

anyone can take UCLA to a final 4. The school recruits itself. He is a mediocre X's and O's coach and plays a boring style. Never coached or recruited in the south. This has disaster written all over it

You make some of the most consistently idiotic posts on basketball on this forum. You don't have to keep one-upping yourself. Honest.

Someone who can't properly use the word "misconstrue" isn't going to dumb it down for anyone else.

You're leaving out the fact he was successful at Northern Arizona and Pittsburgh.

He's the only coach in UCLA history to take them to three straight Final Fours not named John Wooden.

In fact, since John Wooden retired, UCLA has only had one Final Four team that was not coached by Ben Howland.

So no, not anyone can take UCLA to a Final Four.

I do agree that Howland is a mediocre in-game coach. However, he has accomplished a lot in his career. Again, he would't make State an NCAA Tournament team every year. He wouldn't get elite talent to Starkville. However, he would get better talent than they have now.

He would be a good hire, all things considered.

Exactly.

UCLA has had one Final Four team coached by a guy not named Ben Howland since Wooden retired.

Not to mention UCLA missed the tournament in 2003. That may sound whatever, but not until you realize that was the first time in over half a century that UCLA missed

we've had two coaches. Larry brown and Jim Harrick

Your usage of "misconstrue" was incorrect. I can misconstrue something you say. A remark can be misconstrued. A person cannot be misconstrued in the fashion you used the word.

Good effort. I imagine you were in the upper quartile of your class in whatever shithole of a school you attended.
